Something in the boot sequence is being interupted. A bad dvd deck could be the problem. Or bad PWM amp ic. Are you getting an F61 on the display?

SOURCE: I am having problems with

The CD loading mechanism is not resetting properly. When powered on, the entire mechanism goes through a startup alignment sequence. This is to be sure that the unit is in a known position and state. The init indication is for the "electonics" reset portion, the wait message should be present while you hear the mechanism move. The most common cause of this is a slipping belt or a jammed CD. Be cautious about trying to repair this yourself. It is easy to damage the gearing inside or to get it out of aligment. There is a good possibility that this can be repaired with either no parts or with a $3-$5 belt.

My RCA RTD 206 5 disc changer wont play DVD's. It stays on Disc 3 or just says close. I called the # in the manual foe help, but its no longer in service.

If it plays the same disc without issues, you have a mechanical(or the electronics powering the motors and such) problem. For more information, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

There is a hidden loading belt that will stretch over a period of time, if the opening cycle can not complete it will close automatically.

Disc draw does not close fully. The draw closes but the armature that holds the disc does not engage. Is is possible the drive belt is slipping and not allowing to engage the armature?? Advise please...

Hi:
This is ususally a indication that the unit is either out of timing, or like you suspect a worn drive belt, most modern DVD players use gears, but it could very well be belt driven, seems the clamper is closed when the tray trys to go in.

I have a cdc 675 CD changer, When I close the draw it stays close about 10 seconds, the display reads "open" and it opens back up whether there are discs in it or not

It's reporting that it (correctly or incorrectly) detected that the drawer has not fully "closed", i.e., it thinks that there was a "jam" while the drawer was sliding towards the "closed" position.

This sounds (pun intended) like you need to take the unit to a qualified audio/video technician, to trouble-shoot, and maybe check the "alignment" of the drive-tray.

10 year old stereo system CD changer won't play discs

Dust may not be the entire cause, but without knowing the make and model, anything I list would be pure speculation. Please post the make and model. That should give me enough info to list the probable problems and their solutions.

Thanks,
Dan

Will not play anything.

There is a rubber belt inside the loading mechanism, you should replace it by the new one. Cleaning the optical unit can be of great help also. If you need more info, please advice.
