Coleman Powermate VP201 will not go above 40 lbs.

Hi mjschulte815

Here are a few things to check, you may have already checked some of these.

Electricity...Compressors will run best with full 115Vot 15AMP/Or 220V electrical supply from a circuit, over the shortest electrical cord as possible.

Air Leaks..Place your ear close to the compressor and listen for air leaking, if you hear air that is not normal and means you have to locate and repair whatever it is that is leaking.
Check the air unloader valve... The air unloader valve will blown out air when you turned off the compressor, that is normal.
But it should not have air leaking out of it all of the time. If so then it is faulty and in need of repair/replacement.

Valves...If either the intake or exaust valves fail, breaks, or fails to seat, then your compressor will run 24 hours a day and never build up to the correct pressure for shut-off.

Gaskets...Check to see if your gaskets have failed.
You could have a gasket failure between the pistons and you will never know it because it shows no external air leak.
If this situation happens then the air will only cycle between cylinders and never build up the correct air pressure.
One way to check the gasket is remove the air filter, then put your hand over the intake.

Bud
If correct then it will **** you hand against the intake.
If the valve or valves have failed then you will feel the air sucking in and blowing out.

Piston Rings and Cylinder...The piston rings could be stuck, broken, or worn and not allowing the correct pressure to build up in your tank.
A worn cylinder will also contribute to the problem of pressure build-up.

Pressure Switch...Check for air leaks at the pressure switch, it has a rubber diaphram that can fail and leak air out of the system.
Please take time to rate me

Coleman POWERMATE Lo502710. Compressor runs and builds up pressure and then keeps on running even when 100 PSI. It will not shut off. I do not hear a leak when I pull the electric plug to make it stop...

There is a problem with your pressure switch. You should have a little black box with a red lever to turn your air compressor on and off. This housing contains your pressure switch, the pressure switch sends an electrical signal to the switch to make your air compressor run. When enough pressure builds up the pressure switch activates, and breaks the signal until the pressure drops below a certain point. I will do some more research on your compressor and find out which pressure switch you need to order. i need you to find any numbers on the compressor you can, serial number, model, stock number, anything you can to help me find the part number.
Thank you for patience,

I have a 24 gallon. motor starts and pumps but it takes forever to fill and the pressure comming out cannot be regulated

Nothing makes me grunt like "Tim the Tool Man"more than having a air tool in my hand." More Power!" The first (andonly) compressor I ever bought was used and failed to build up pressure. I hadlittle idea how it worked. Anyone with a little mechanical knowledge can workthrough it with the parts manual. The. Coleman Powermate Manuals are here. With the parts manual your search will befruitful. Do a internet search for suspect part numbers. You will find suppliers. OneI've used is "Arkansas Outdoor Power Equipment" They have many parts list for you to dig through. The odds are there is a "Tool Supply and/or Repair" in your area where you can take your defective part.

Diagnostics: After you let it pump for a couple minutes turn it off and listenfor leakage.Listen quick and close. If it is leaking bad it may only be obvious for a couple seconds.

Lines and connections can leak. The Regulator (adjustable knob) can leakinside. The "Pressure Switch" can leak (usually at the valve bleeder). If it's under pressure it canleak. All leaks must be fixed. All these parts can be rebuilt or replaced. The "PressureSwitch" controls at what (low) pressurethe compressor kicks on and what (high) pressure it stops compressing.A compressor that pumps and fails to build up the pressureis leaking air as it pumps. Watch the gauges as it pumps. Does it reach acertain pressure and then no higher? If you do not hear leakage when it is offbut it fails to build up 80~90 psi in a reasonable amount of time it is quietlikely it is leaking at the piston as it pumps. A (piston assy, O Ring, and cylinder)repair kits is available online. Or you can check with local "Toolsservice/sales" stores for parts.

Remember a dusty environment requires the filter element becleaned more frequently. Run it without a filter and you'll be replacing thepiston assy sooner.
Repairing it yourself is much more manly (and less expensive) than replacing it

Coleman compressor no build up of pressure

Parts for coleman are available at www.mastertoolrepair.com your compressor is listed as L0502710. If however you like to tinker, you can make a pretty good reed valve out of aluminum can material or other (any ideas?). It is fairly easy to cut, does not last as long as factory stainless steel, but for short term, why not? Good Luck
