Yes you can. You might use Sugru to re-attach the cover. http://www.sugru.com

Add ram to asus f501a

The F501A has one RAM slot- located on the underside of the motherboard. It's a tricky thing to reach, but doable if you have patience. Turn the laptop bottom-up. Remove the battery. Remove the 11 screws from the back cover. The two nearest the hinge are longer than the other 9. They're tiny so put them into a cup as you work. Turn laptop over & grab the top cover in the area of either hinge & gently lift. Use a plastic credit card or plastic flat tool to slide around the edge as you gently pull upwards. There are little clips holding the cover down & they are freed as you push/slide the tool. Once the top cover is free, carefully lift towards you & un-clip the two ribbon cables which are holding it to the motherboard.

Now, in order to reach the underside RAM slot, you must un-clip the cable near the top right (the VGA screen), disconnect the fan, & remove any screws you see that are holding the motherboard down. Then, while supporting the fan, carefully lift the motherboard from the left side, up & towards the right (standing it up on it's right edge)- you may even want to tip the laptop onto it's side as you go.

From here, you'll now have access to the RAM slot. Only reassemble the fan & a couple of screws, then the VGA cable & keyboard cables & test that the RAM is recognized in the BIOS. You can press the tiny power button by reaching under the spot where it normally rests (so you don't have to reattach the entire keyboard/cover right away). Once you see the RAM is detected, then you can fully reassemble.

If you'd like a reminder- just take photos as you go.

Lastly, the maximum RAM is 8GB.

I would like to disasemble my laptops hinges but dont know how

What is the Model Series number?
There is a slight difference between the ZV6000, and ZX5000/ZV5000 series, for this procedure.

I want to give you the link to the Service Manual, (Free)
It won't describe, or illustrate the entire procedure of removing the Hinges, but will help for me to guide you.

The basic procedure is to remove all electrical sources first.
AC adapter (Charger), and Battery. Work on a table.
Follow Anti-Static Precautions before you begin.

Have a multi-compartment container, for the various screws you will remove, and label each compartment for where the screws came from.
(You can use a clean egg carton in a pinch)

Open the laptop, remove the Strip Cover,

(Below the LCD screen, and above the Keyboard. There are screws to remove from the bottom, so that the Strip Cover can be removed)

The Strip Cover will be popped up, and out, and there is a procedure for this.
(Start at one end, work your way along, basically)

The Keyboard is removed next. There is a procedure so you don't break the tiny keyboard connection cable.

There is a Thermal Cover to remove.

Next are the Wireless Antenna cables, and Display cable.
There may also be a Display Ground cable.

Screw covers for the hinges are removed from the back. The hinge screws are removed next.

The above is a General, Basic, set of procedures.
Advise do not follow it.
It's just to give you a basic idea of what is entailed.

If your problem Does Not relate to the HP Pavilion ZV6000, ZX5000, or ZV5000 series of laptops, state what laptop manufacturer, and model series it is.
(State in a Comment)

HOW DO I REMOVE THE HARD DRIVE FOR REPLACEMENT ON ASPIRRE 9504WSM

1) Remove the AC adapter, (Charger), if plugged in. Remove the Battery. There must be No electrical sources to the Notebook PC.
(Laptop)

2) Turn the laptop over, going from Right to Left. Bottom of laptop is now facing you.

3) On the left side there is a rectangular panel. The rectangle faces up, and down in length.

4) In the Middle, to the right of this panel is another rectangular panel. This panel faces horizontally in length.
This is the Harddrive Compartment Panel.

There are two Philips head screws on the right side of the panel. One on top, one on bottom. Loosen these screws to remove the panel.
(You will see a finger tab on the right of the panel, used for lifting the panel up, and out)

5) You will see a cloth strip attached to the back end of the harddrive.
Slip the cloth strip out. Grab the cloth strip with your fingers, pull back.

6) When the harddrive has cleared it's pins of the interface connector, lift the back end of the harddrive up, and slide the harddrive out.

CAUTION!!
Use care as you do not want to bend those tiny pins.
Refrain from touching the pins. If the harddrive is determined to be bad, it's okay.
When installing the new one though, refrain from touching it's pins.

You need to remove all the screws from the back also, then remove the cover to the rear on the bottom and remove the wireless card (make note as to connection colours) and there is 2 (I think) screws under there, then one also under the battery, then the whole top opens up.

Make sure you have removed all screws from the bottom case, including the four under the rubber feet at the rear.

This was the most awful laptop I have ever worked on!

Memory Install

You can usually find manuals for gaining access to the Ram slots, but I have opened up a Tecra before. Though not exactly the same model. you have to remove the plastic strip along the top of the keyboard (under the screen). Most of these pop up with SLIGHT pressure from a screwdriver but be careful, it may have one or more screws in the bottom of the laptop. Turn it over and look for any deep holes that might have screws that screw into the plastic strip on the top. Once you have the strip off, you can usually see easily how to remove the keyboard.
