How to replace lid switch video

My washer just quit working all at once. There where NO WARNINGS all was fine sounded just fine acted just fine !!! so I have checked the electrical plug and the power is there with no issue at all. Im trying to find a way to check the lid switch to see if it is bad. Although I do not think it can be checked besides by the time I get to it due to its location I'm thinking I'm there might as well replace it if its not to expensive or difficult. That's why I'm looking for a video.

There are videos on you tube. The lids are usually held down with a couple of clips sometimes screws. If it has a switch that is activated with a plunger on the lid test it with a screwdriver if it doesn't have a hole us a magnet to test.

SOURCE: My Washer will work at all. It acts dead

a small run of these actually had an out of balance switch and fuse assembly that cut power to the machine if it went way out of balance ,check and see if yours has one and replace the fuse at first but you may have to replace the entire assembly

SOURCE: Washer is "dead." Was stopped after fill up, and now no power.

Try pushing firmly on the center of the lid.... with the lid closed... it could be that the lid switch isn't making proper contact to turn the machine on.
If this is the case, you can open the lid, and while holding the lid open with one hand, put firm pressure on the rear lip of the lid right in the center..where it makes contact with switch...
This was a common occurence at my laundromats because people would sit/stand on the machines..
Hope this gets ya up and runnin'

Estate by whirlpool model SM8280867. Filled, then stopped. What's wrong?

Charla, By what you have stated, it sounds like a lid switch failure. I recommend checking the screws for the lid hinge first. The lid has to be closed for the motor to run in the washer. If the lid switch is faulty, it will act as if the lid is open. A quick check you can do is to run a cycle with the lid switch jumped. If the washer operates, the lid switch needs to be replaced.
To jump the lid switch you need to unplug the washer and open the console.Once you have the console open, locate the connector for the lid switch. Place an insulated jumper between the gray and white wires. Not the green it is a ground and will cause a short. After inserting the jumper make sure it will not touch anything metal, plug the washer in. Then start the washer in a cycle, and let it go. If the washer completes the cycle, you need to replace the lid switch. Remove the jumper and order the part. The jumper is only of the test do not continue to operate after test.

Lid is not locking properly, washer sensor is overfilling, and the washer wont spin

Check door switch: If the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining. Release switch. Motor should stop. Press switch a second time. Washer should start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid switch is pressed, replace the switch. OR

Spin cycle will not work at all. washer drains but will not spin.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the washer fills however, will not spin then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

I have a Kenmore 60 series heavy duty washer. It will wash and drain in all cycles just fine, but it won't spin. It sounds like it wants to spin but it wont.

My washing not draining water after washing.

Hi,

It sounds like a lid switch failure. The lid has to be closed for the motor to run on your washer. If the lid switch is faulty, it will act as if the lid is not closed.
You need to replace the lid switch.

Hope this helps.

Spins when it feels like it

Popcorn, sounds like you are having trouble with the lid switch. The plastic housing in which the screws hold the switch to the cabinet may have cracked, or came loose. If the lid switch is not making correct contact the result is no spin, no drain. The switch actuator on the lid itself may need adjustment. The lid switch is mounted to the cabinet on the back right side under the consol. The lid switch part number is 8054980. But check the actuator first. Catriver..post back.

Washer won't drain

Mustache, sounds like you have a broken lid switch. No spin, no drain usually a sign of this. Check to see if the actuator is making the lid switch, or the switch itself is bad. Part number for the switch is 8318084. Catriver, post back.
