Question about HP Compaq 6735s Notebook

1 Answer

Colours are distorted, the screen flickers and the cursor lags.

The laptop is functioning fine other than the display. However, when I connect it to an external display (my TV) the TV states there's no signal. I have defragmented the hard drive but this has had no effect.

SOURCE: External Monitor (TV) causes HP nx9420 to rest screen display

You don't have that option, you have to change the screen resolution back to the higher resolution when you want to use the LCD screen.
The only solution is to buy a high definition TV with a PC video input.

SOURCE: S-video not working any more

Check device manager and ensure that there is more than one display adapter listed, and no devices with red X on them. Please right click on both video adapters, and left click uninstall - don't worry. Reboot, and windows will try to redetect hardware to hopefully reinstall the missing video adapter. Another good option would be to do a system restore to the day before the problem startd. Last option would be to uninstall all video card software/drivers on the system and reboot. windows will install generic drivers, and then you can reinstall the proper software for the video card.

hope this helps!

Monitor display flickers a lot and colours change

If the monitor is external, make sure the connecting cable is in properly. If it is a vga cable, ensure it is screwed in tight, not just plugged in. If the display is built it, I suggest you take it to your nearest computer repair shop for them to have a look at it unless you have previous experience in this or a really tech savvy family member/friend.

Laptop screen flickering diffrent colours

Hook a spare monitor to the video ouput usually on the back, if picture okay! the problem is the new LCD screen or video cable which you replaced, if both show the same symptom it is the video graphics card normally built into the motherboard.

WHITE is a mixture of the three "primary" colours.
If one of the colours is not working, then WHITE turns PINK.

So, either your LCD display is malfunctioning,
or the "data" cable between the LCD and the motherboard is malfunctioning (not transmitting all 3 signals),
or the video-card embedded into the motherboard is malfunctioning (not sending all 3 signals).

This is nothing that you can fix by yourself; take your computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting and repair.

Hello sir/mam, as i analyze you problem, there are several points that may cause these problem, 1. your hard drive might have bad sectors that at a point the heads of the hard drive have difficulties reading the information thus cuasing the sound and lag of screen to become distorted. so i suggest you regularly scan for bad sectors. 2. its a long shot, it may be your software, you have to reinstall the porgram where you saw the lag. if every thing else fails, if its not a hassle, reinstall your OS and work with a fresh copy of programs on your laptop. if you have anymore questions, let me know. thanks
