Question about Whirlpool 25.4 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator w/Thru-the-Door Ice & Water - Satina Stainless-Look

1 Answer

No water Water does not flow. Solenoid water line attaches to never opens. I have checked solenoid and it works fine. Ice maker was replaced by a technician and nothing since. Could he have turned water off in service mode or a switch somewhere?

Door switches are fine. The other 2 solenoids next to this one switch on but it does not. I checked the filter to make sure the door was closed and it is.

  • larasboys Apr 14, 2014

NO ICE as the water cannot pass through the first solenoid the water supple to the fridge passes through. This is the faulty solenoid

  • larasboys Apr 14, 2014

Ice works as the fridge comes on to let water through for ice just no water for water side of things

If you are getting ice then you still have a water supply. If not then make sure the water is turned on behind the fridge. I would next check for power to the solenoid when the door switch is pushed. Then check to make sure there is power to the switch. My best guess it that you have a faulty door switch or the wire was accidentally loosened or taken off when the person was working on the ice.

Sounds like a faulty solenoid. Conform by making sure there is power to the solenoid and it is being activated. If there is power there then the solenoid is either stuck or you have a faulty coil, either way it will need to be replaced.

  • larasboys Apr 14, 2014

Solenoid is fine. I plugged it into one of the other plugs and it operates fine. It is not getting the power to switch on. Does anyone have a circuit diagram for this beast?

SOURCE: Ice maker not getting water after changing filter

Check the following:
Is the freezer door closed completely?
Is the ice storage bin installed correctly?
Is there ice in the storage bin?
Has the ice frozen in the storage bin?
Is ice stuck in the delivery chute?
Has the wrong ice been added to the storage bin? Use only
cubes produced by the current ice maker.
Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the
ice bucket?
Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice storage
Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing “crushed”
Change the ice button from “crushed” to “cubed.” If
cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the button for
“crushed” ice and begin dispensing again.
Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Ice will stop
dispensing when the arm is held in too long. Wait 3 minutes
for dispenser motor to reset before using again.

The ON/OFF switch is located on the top right side of the freezer
To turn the ice maker on, slide the control to the ON (left) position.
To manually turn the ice maker off, slide the control to the OFF
(right) position.
NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. The ice maker
sensors will automatically stop ice production, but the control will
remain in the ON (left) position

Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the
first three batches of ice produced.
The quality of your ice will be only as good as the quality of the
water supplied to your ice maker. Avoid connecting the ice
maker to a softened water supply. Water softener chemicals
(such as salt) can damage parts of the ice maker and lead to
poor quality ice. If a softened water supply cannot be avoided,
make sure the water softener is operating properly and is well

The Dispenser Lock (on some models)
Your dispenser can be turned off for easy cleaning or to prevent
unintentional dispensing by small children and pets.
NOTE: The lock feature does not shut off power to the product, to
the ice maker, or to the dispenser light. It simply deactivates the
dispenser levers. The ice and water dispensers will not work.
Style 1: Press the LOCK BUTTON to lock the dispenser. Press the
UNLOCK button to unlock the dispenser.
Style 2: Press and hold the LOCK OUT button to lock the
dispenser. Press and hold the LOCK OUT button a second time to
unlock the dispenser.

SOURCE: no water flow to ice maker

Two possible answers on this one. The water control valve for the ice maker is defective or the switches inside the front of ice maker are stuck.

Where do I find the ice maker inlet water valve or solenoid? The valve on the back of my fridge has only one hose going to both the water dispenser and ice maker and the water dispenser works fine.

Since there is water that flows to the water dispenser, the water valve is working. Now, there's a spout that water flows from to the icemaker tray. Look for it. It's located on the back wall inside the freezer and maybe behind the icemaker tray. Check and see if it's frozen. If so, defrost your freezer by turning the temperature gauge to off position. Wait a while until it's defrosted, then turn it back on.
Next, make sure that the metal wire is in down position.

If that doesn't work, your icemaker maybe defective and needs replacement.

No Ice. Replaced 4 solenoid water inlet valves. Icemaker spins around, but no water comes up. Any ideas?? Bruce

Follow the water source line on the back of the refrigerator to the shutoffvalve on the water supply. Turn the shutoff valve counterclockwise to open itfully. Inspect the water source line for kinks. Straighten the line to removekinks.Confirm water flows to solenoid one end. And also check freezer door is closed as it will sense solenoid to open to water flow into ice maker. Sometimes, water flow might be plugged by frosting. Check freezer setting temp 5 degree. Thanks.

Ice maker not making ice water dispenser works well

There are 2 solenoids, one controls the water dispenser the other controls the ice maker water supply. Follow the tubing down the back of the refrigerator to find the ice maker solenoid. If the line is frozen between the back of the refrigerator and the ice maker it won't make ice either. If the line is frozen you need to check to see if the solenoid is leaking, this allows a trickle of water to continously flow through the lina and freeze.

Ice maker will not work. No water flows into ice maker. What is cost of replacing ice maker? Ice maker is part no. 628370.

If the problem is only that you don't have any flow of water in ice maker then you should check the water solenoid, the water filter if its cogged or water container if it is frozen,
In any case the Ice maker is abot $140

Whirlpool Fridge Mod-ED20TQXFX01. No water is coming into ice maker. Removed plug from water supply solenoid and applied power-water then flows into tray. Arm is down on ice maker.

Sounds like a solenoid problem. An electrical valve that opens to allow water into the tray(s), then closes when they are full (usually by a timer). The valve may be defective or the control circuit for the valve. A plugged filter could cause symptoms like this too, but you will usually have some water coming out into the trays.

But with no water and the fact that you had to apply power before water flowed into the tray, then it is the solenoid.....

Ice maker not working water is connected line is not kinked temperature is right

You have not provided a make or model so I am going to assume this is the standard half crescent ice cube maker. Your Ice maker has a little wire arm that must be in the down position to begin making ice. If that arm isn't down then do that now. You could have other problems such as, the ice maker motor isn't cycling or your water valve is stuck or dead etc, so lets address those issues now. To test for proper Ice maker motor operation try adding 1 cup of water to your ice maker and allow it to freeze 45 minutes without opening the freezer or fridge door during that time. Verify that your ice ejection arms are facing a close to level posotion in the ice cube tray itself. That's the little fingers you see sticking up in the air as ice is ejected from the ice tray. Now pour the water directly into the ice tray itself and wait for it to freeze and be dumped. if within a 45 minute to 1 hour period, there has been no movement or ejection of the frozen ice cubes, you may safely assume that your ice maker is either dead, or simply not plugged in completely or correctly. If however the ice has ejected we can move to the next step, the water valve. Sometimes the electric water valve (solenoid) screen becomes clogged and must be cleaned out for water to flow. Follow the water hose at the back of the fridge from the top of the box to the little blue or red valve (solenoid) at the bottom of the fridge, or you may simply follow your fresh water line from your line tap to the fridge itself, turn that off and remove it. Now inspect and clear any obstructions you see on the screen. With a helper on the other end, have them turn your water tap on at the source to check for water flow using a cup or mop bucket to catch the water as it comes out. If all is well water flows and the screen is clean and you may now reattach the fresh water line. Now we test the solenoid. This test requires a standard carpenters nail and a block of wood. Placing the wood as close to the solenoid as possible, while keeping it flat and level, take the carpenters nail and place it as close to the water valve/solenoid as possible while standing it on it's head on the block of wood. When the solenoid trips the nail will fall over and you will hear it hit the floor. When that happens you should hear water flow into the ice maker. If no water flows, your solenoid is jammed and needs to be replaced.

Ice maker not working

Cause could be the solenoid valve which controls water flow into the ice maker.

Could be bad solenoid, bad relay for solenoid, clogged solenoid valve, corroded electrical connections, etc.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Model ED25PW Ice maker tray not filling with water

Just had this issue - after checking all line connections, I pulled the ice maker feed water line from the back of the unit and found the tube was blocked with ice. Melted the ice with some hot water, and all is good once more. I would check for this before getting into the solinoid.

Yes, the ice maker controls the water valve. First check that there is water in the ice maker trays. If there is your valve is not the problem. If not, loosen the fitting on the water line that leads to the water solenoid valve. If you do not find water, check your manual valve that taps into the main water line. If you do have water, it may be that the water inlet above and behind your ice maker is frozen. You can thaw it out with a hair dryer and see if that is the problem. If this model dispenses water through the door, you can find the water solenoid valve behind the unit near the floor and reverse the two plugs on the solenoids. Place a paper towel in the water inlet tube that channels the water into your ice maker. Close the coor and press the water dispenser for 3 seconds. Open the door and see if the paper towel is wet. If it is, the water solenoid is fine. You can also remove the front of the ice maker and put an insulated jumper wire between the T and H test points to see if the unit ice maker will go through its cycle.
