5 amp "slow blow" fuse where power cord connects to amplifier has probably blown. 9 screws holds the cover on, remove them and check fuse.

This is an indication of an internal problem. Typically this is shorted output transistors. Expect a parts cost in the $25-$40 range for this repair.

Until you resolve the issue you might want to limit how many times you subject the speakers to those transients.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

SOURCE: My Harmon Kardon AVR 2600 goes to protect mode when powered up. After many tries it will fire up but at times it's up to twenty times. I did load the software upgrade 6 months and it has been fine

Check all speaker wiring for shorts, if okay! there is a problem in the audio output stage of the unit or the protection circuit is not working properly. I would suggest a pro to evaluate.

My fisher-RS939 audio stopping getting out through the speakers and do I get it out if the system is in protect mode

Normally when receiver keeps entering protection mode it means wires are crossed or touching somehwere. Double check all speaker wire connections at the receiver and speakers. More than likey the positive and negative wires are touching at one of the terminals.

I HAVE AN XLMP60 SHARP SYSTEM, ITS IN PROTECT MODE, WHAT CAN I DO?

Hi

If the unit is going into a protect mode, the first thing to do is test the unit with no speakers connected, if it still goes into protect this means that Dc is being detected on the output stage, usually meaning that there is a short circuit on the output stage, therefore the unit needs to be repaired, if it tests find without any speakers connected then either the speaker/s are short circuit or the speaker wiring is short circuit either positive to negitive or positive down to earth, i.e frayed copper wire touching the units casing.

I have a JBL GTO 7001, it switches in an out of protection mode. i pulled out the amp, an noticed that the positive wire from the speaker was pulled out. so i disconnected the power scorce an reconnected...

Make sure that your positives and negatives are lined up correctly. This happened to me during my latest install and the problem was I had one positive speaker wire plugged into a negative speaker terminal. This switches the amp on after a few seconds and then back to protect mode once it detects a faulty speaker wire. Hope this helps!

"PROTECT" appears on my DENON DHT-500SD

Sounds like a speaker wire is shorting against either another speaker wire or something metallic. Check your speaker wires to make sure they're not shorting (touching). If that doesn't work, I'd take it to a repair facility. Good luck!

When i turn my home cinema on it says protect then switches itself off

normally when the system shuts itself off there is a short detected in the speaker wiring. Make sure the the positive and negative terminals on your speakers arent touching each other. try unhooking each speaking then power up the unit each time you connect a speaker. this will tell you if there is a short in your speaker or speaker wire.

The protection light keeps coming on

That means something isn't wired right. Make sure that all of the power inputs from the battery are correct. Most importantly make sure no bare wires are touching (IE the positive and negative bare wires going to the subwoofer terminal.) If it keeps persisting, check the voltage level in the car and make sure it is normal, because some fancy amps have protection where it will go into protect mode if the amplifier is not getting enough power to supply. Also, does this happen when you are really bumping (like high volume) or just the second its on it cuts? Because when you really play it loud and it cuts, sometimes you are putting too much a load on the amp. Make sure the fuse in the amplifier is the correct fuse for the amplifier.

Sony STR K840P, protect mode is flashing,no sound, nothing come out. When starting every thing is fine for 20 or 30 seconds and the "protect"start to flash and nothing geht anymore, everything is blocked

This is a classic problem. One of your speakers is miss wired and or your speaker wires positive and negitive leads are touching. Check all connections from the back of the reciever to the back of the speakers to make sure your positive and negatives are correct and that none of the wiring is crossed or touching one another.

Protect mode turns the reciever off at fairly modest volumes

I Had the same problem.

It occurs when you have a speaker wire touching something that it shouldnt and and you are grounding out the system. The system is going in to protect mode to keep itself from being damaged

In my case I found that I had a couple of frayed wires from one of my back speaker terminals touching the wire on the other terminal. This was all it took. I re-inserted the speaker wires on that one particular speaker and made sure they were not touching and problem solved.
