SOURCE: external hard drive

I'm not overly familiar with Vista yet, but I believe that you will have to delete these as administrator. Use the Vista help menu, you'll find it there. If it's a program file you will need to uninstall, versus delete, from the add/remove programs in the control panel.

SOURCE: installing win xp from external hard drive

Umm...is your laptop crashed??? Usually ntlldr issues ****. try to delete the former installation so a new ntldr file can be installed so as to not conflict with the damaged ntldr file that is on the pc blocking the install. It sounds like your setup is ok...at the very least get another xp cd to make sure the disk is not damaged that you are loading windows from.

SOURCE: Lost manual. Need instructions for inputting and storing new files data . Is there a linnux version of 'windows explorer'

Hi mamacrazy,

Ok so you have a ASUS EEEPC and you're using the Linux OS that came bundled with it. I'm going to answer your questions, let's start with the first one:

1.) There is a equivalent application for Windows Explorer in the Linux OS in the EEEPC it's called "File Manager" and you can find it under the WORK tab. It should open a window similar to windows explorer.

To answer the second question:

2.) So you created a document and you need to save it. Choose FILE menu select SAVE AS then on the window that pops up on the left choose the icon that looks like a house named "MY HOME" then on the right it should show the different locations available including your USB flash drive. The office application installed in the EEEPC is called OPENOFFICE, so you can actually visit their website www.openoffice.org to get support and more information about the application.

To get a copy of the manual just goto this link:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Pick the lanaguage of the manual you need, and download it and read the manual for more details on how to use the PC.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)

SOURCE: how do I access my external hard drive on my lap

I think you should first set the parameters on the BIOS to boot on USB first then second to the internal hard drive. The lappy should have this capability first. And could support that storage space.

But a word of advise. Since it is 180GByte it might be very slow to access the USB boot. It should be almost the basic setup for the OS installed on the external drive. And an XP OS is much faster to load, as for me.

When you want to boot on external drive plug the external drive and power it before booting the lap. When internal don't plug the external, after booting plug it if you want to access as external drive.

Hope it helps.

How do I export/transfer photos I edited in Asus PhotoDirector to another folder on my desktop to burn them to a DVD?

If you at the moment can't afford a backup drive use a free one like Google Docs. Just go to google and sign up then you can backup your photos and document to Googles secure server.

You can never have too many backups. Backing them up to a external hard drive of a usb flash drive is a good method. Good luck.

Does not boot up

hi...
Probably a virus, or your windows folder got corrupted. Try to use Knoppix (A linux distrobution that boots from a CD) to get all your data onto a pen drive or external hard drive. Download the Knoppix ISO at Knoppix.com and burn it onto a CD or DVD using MagicISO (magiciso.com). Insert the CD, and you should see the boot screen. Open the file manager, and copy all the files you want to keep from your hard drive to a pen drive or external hard drive. Then, reinstall Windows using a recovery CD (one might have come with your computer). Copy the files back

Need to transfer copied files to x301 after full restore

create a new folder in your hard-disk and first try to copy 1-2 files from the external hard-drive to the new folder (copy any data/work/images you have stored/created not any files of windows folder or root of c: drive)

if the above copy works then copy back all except the c: root and these folders - Windows folder, Document & settings, Program Files

How to save folders containing files onto a memory stick

using a pen drive is not a tough job

just plug it in to the usb port and wait for a few seconds
*you will see a baloon tip saying found new hardware
*wait untill it says device installion complete
*reboot if neccessary

now go to my computer
*you will see a new drive in it(it is your usb pen drive)
*double click to open it

you can acces it like your normal hard drive partiitions

if you want to copy something to your pen drive then

*right click on the file or folder
*select the option "send to"
*your pen drive will be listed in it
*click on the name of your pen drive
*wait for copying to finish

after that go to my computer open the pen drive and see if the file is copied

you can also delete the files in your pen drive

*select the file
*press delete in the keyboard

files deleted from pen drives dont reach recycle bin

Cannot Open Excel 2000 File.

I presume you are trying to open the document using the Recently Opened file list in Excel's "File" menu. If so, use the "Open" entry in the "File" menu instead and navigate to the pen drive from there - it may be that the drive letter has changed. Another possibility: use Windows Explorer (which can be accessed by double clicking on My Computer) to copy the file from the pen drive to the desktop and open it from there by double clicking on it. If that still doesn't work (but the copy worked OK) then right click on the file, click on "Properties" and see if the Read Only box is checked. If so, uncheck it.

And yet another possibility: after closing the file, did you pull the pen drive from the PC without telling Windows to eject it first? If you just remove the drive too quickly, without ejecting it first, the file can easily be corrupted.
