Question about Fender Md20 Mini Deluxe Practice Amplifier Amp

Open Question

What op amp is used in the Fender Mini Deluxe MD-20 practice amp? I had it repaired and seems they put in a KIA6213S, but it sounds terrible.

SOURCE: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe making popping noise

Ah yes, the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I have seen more of these in my shop than any other amplifier!! I have even sent recomendations for design changes to Fender about this amplifier.
Sadly, your amp tech may be correct: while the amp is within working specs, you can still have an issue with a bad socket. The cheapest thing to try is to replace the preamp tube(s) you think may be causing the problem. If the problem persists, it may need to be serviced on this issue (by a different 'certified Fender tech'). In defense of the last tech you had work on this amp, these amplifiers have a brittle design and do not gig or travel well (there are a minority of these amps made that do perform). Fender tried to do too much for the price on this model: best advice is to fix it, sell it and get your tone with a more stable model made by Fender (like the new vintage re-issues). Fender, like Marshall, has for years been having problems when they get too far from thier 'working reciepe' of what made them great companies.
You likely have a socket that needs re-tensioned, or a preamp tube not behaving. If it is not these, then a tech had to dive in the house of cards that is this circuit. Sorry for the bad news on this, but it is the truth. I only take on Hot Rods that 'appear' to be fixable. I am a development engineer, build amps from scratch and fix them for the local music shops, and my success rate is a dismal 60%-ish percent on these...
Thanks,-mike

SOURCE: I have Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Blues Deluxe

I want you to do a test. while using the amp plug a pair of headphones into the preamp out... note you will only hear stuff on one side if they are stereo phones and the sound may be fairly weak... while the unit is operating correctely then unplug phones and use it. When it fades out plug in phones compare the level when it was OK... If the preamp output fades lower as well, then we know problem is in the preamp section...

We can do a lot of troubleshooting without opening the amp.

I see nothing in the scheamtics that should be an issue causing this...

Since it didn't fail for the tech, think "what was different?". Are you connecting something else? Foot pedal? Temperature? :Loudness of playing?

Now what else is in common to these two units... AHA! The guitar...

If your guitar has a battery in it, the 20 to 30 minutes fading would correspond to a battery failing and then recovering after you unplug the guitar for a while.

SOURCE: Fix Reverb unit on Fender Hot-Rod Deluxe Amp

Could have broken a spring in the reverb tank, or a wire connecting it to the amp, or the reverb driver tube, or a few other things, but those are the most likely in this situation. Thats what I'd check first. Give it a little slap and if it vibrates like normal, your spring is probably ok, you can still open it up and double check though. Check your wires. Then pull your reverb driver tube and replace it. If that doesn't work, it is probably in the circuit somewhere, and you should not work on your amp unless you know what you are doing. They store large amounts of electicity in the caps and they can kill you.

SOURCE: how do i connect the boss gt 10 to a fender blues

You can plug the output of the gt10 into the "power amp in" jack of the Fender. This bypasses the preamps in the Fender but uses a buffer amps in the Fender to drive the power amp. Please note that the reverb is STILL in the circuit when you do this. You can turn the reverb to zero if you wish to disable it.

SOURCE: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe problem.

This sounds like a bad solder joint or cracked circuit board feeding the heater voltlaage to the left tube.

Pins 2 and 7 are the heater. LOOK for circuit board crack or bad solder to these pins.

Remember there is HIGH VOLTAGE in this unit so use ALL precautions for your personal safety as the voltages can be lethal.

How do I fix a blown op amp on fender hot rod deville 2x12?

Unless the person that analyzed this problem used an oscilloscope and did detailed troubleshooting, I would NOT jump to the conclusion that aan op amp was blown BASED upon my looking at the schematic of the unit. There are MANY components involved with the overdrive channel, including relays and other transistors and components. The most probable caause would be that 1/2 of the V2 vacuum tube is burnt out. Test by swapping V1 with V2. If NOTHING works, then replace the tube that is NOW in V1 as the second section of it has a burnt out heater. Also a bad potentiometer for the OD channel would be a suspect. A VERY common problem is broken solder at pot terminals. Try plugging a set of headphones into the preamp output. See if you can hear sounds in bothe OD and clean channels. Note you will only hear sound in the LEFT headphone as the preamp out is MONO. MOST of the three op amp chips would NOT kill the OD signal if they were bad.

Fender passport 150 pro- Bought to uses for "Bike Nights" Plaing cd palyer in small retail parking lots. Volume is too low, when ever I try to put input level beyond halfway,,, I get...

You are in danger of popping the amp. The Fender passport 150 would be capable of covering about only a 20 foot by 20 foot area. If your area is bigger than that, you need more power and certainly bigger speakers. I would NOT recommend the larger Passport systems as the speakers are too directive for what sounds like your use... also there are reliability issues.

Hot rod deluxe squeals terribly with either overdrive box or distortion box. seem fine with tremolo or chorus box.

I have had this problem at least two times and the fault was a bad hi voltage filter capacitor. With the back of the amplifier removed, it's the grey cap near the top right side. Warning: very dangerous voltage there!!

Popping sound when amp is on. A steady pop, pop, pop pop. Fender Hod Rod Deluxe. It vibrates the whole amp. Lights dim with each pop.

You don't say WHICH lights dim with the popping. IF it is your lights in the house, IMMEDIATELY get an electrician to check your wiring as there is a loose connection or failure someplace in the sytem that would be a fire hazard.

IF the lights you are talking about are those on the amp, there is a power supply failure in the amp which is LIKELY a bad filter capacitor. Take in for repair or learn how to work on the eloectronics safely and do the repair yourself. The part is likely under $5,

MY Fender Passport P250 went into protect mode. I changed the FUSE at the power supply with a new fuse. Still it is in Protect mode. How to fix this

This needs to go to the repair shop. The protect mode is turned on when either the power supply has a problem or one or both power amplifiers have a problem. These are often blown components.

These units are HARD to work on. To open you have to first remove then front panel before you can remove the back panel that has the power supply and power amps/heat sinks.

Compare repairs of these units to working under an automobile dashboard!

Hint: On startup, use a series 150 wat lamp to limit current while repairing. SInce these use a switching supply operating off the input line, use an isolation transformer for personal safety.
