SOURCE: will a repair manual explain to me how to fix a brake booster?

Yes , for sure. A haynes manual is a must have for anyone who wants to do work on their own car. It will save you hours of frustration and unnecessary work. WELL worth the cost.
When you say the booster is going out , are you sure ?
They work of a vacumme hose from the engine , if that hose is leaking , or the little valve where it goes into the booster is no good , than you might think the booster is bad when it is good.
In general terms either the booster is good , or it is bad and you have to stand on the pedal to get any brakes.
If you post more info about what your brakes are doing , or not doing , someone might give you a different solution / diagnosis.

SOURCE: why do I have brake

The master cylinder seal is bad. (seal between master cylinder & booster) Common GM problem as they age.

If your truck has a brake booster, I suspect the vacuum hose to the booster has gotten fuel into it or just gotten old and is collapsing inside.

I have a 1998 gmc yukon and i need to replace the brake booster but i dont know how what do i do?

Can you provide me with additional information? Such as, does the brake pedal go to the floor when applying the brakes, are the brakes spongy, non responsive? Is there anything leading up to this issue, such as a minor accident?

I have a 1998 GMC yukon and the problem is that

The Master Booster is located in the Engine compartment. You shouldn't have to touch anything under your dash at all. The master comes unbolted, you slide it out slightly to disconnect and hardware that may be connected and then remove it. GMC sometimes add connectors to the linking parts between the brake pedal and Booster but they can be disconnected and should be disconnected from the engine side of the firewall. I recommend you get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle before continuing that repair.

Service brake booster display

Your brake booster is the heart of your power brakes. It runs off a vacuum from the intake to booster. Your brakes will still work as long as they have fluid. They'll just get stiff. It probably means you need a new one
