Sorry but this calculator cannot do calculations in other numerations just decimal. To make sure examine the calculator looking for markings like BIN OCT HEX. If you do not find any (and you will not) then you can be sure that it does not perform base conversions.

1) Look at the following numbers before trying to convert binary to decimal. Each of them represent the value in a binary number from left to right.

128-64-32-16-8-4-2-1

2) Look at your binary number, for this example lets use 10010010. For each one add the corresponding number from step 1, the number you come out with is the conversion.

So: 10010010 -> 128+16+2 -> 146

10010010 = 146

the binary system are made only for ones and zeros, when you try to "add one digit" in the binary system, you must add an 1 in the right-sided zero of the binary code, that means that when you want to count up in binary, it should be:

00000 = zero

00001 = one

00010 = two

00011 = three

00100 = four

00101 = five

and so on.

to go up to next number you must add a "1" in the place close more to the right, once this digit has reached its two states (binary= first 0 then 1) the same process occurs in the next digit , but it only rise from zero to one once the right one has reached its two binary states.

the binary digit 01101 stand for: 13 (decimal)

To convert from binary to decimal, we have to line up the numbers with the binary columns.

None of these solutions answer his question. When converting a fraction or any number with decimal places to Binary, the TI-89 gives "Error: Domain error." For example, entering .6875 [2ND][MATH][BASE][BIN] does not work. I haven't found a way to do it with built in functions. In order to do these types of conversions, I use the following method.

Convert: 0.6875 to Binary

- left of decimal is a 0, so write down a 0, then a decimal point: (0.)

- multiply .6875 x 2 = 1.375 left of decimal is 1, write a 1: (0.1)

- drop the 1 and multiply .375 x 2 = .75 left of decimal is 0. write a 0: (0.10)

- multiply .75 x 2 = 1.5 left of decimal is 1, write a 1: (0.101)

- drop the 1, multiple .5 x 2 = 1. left of decimal is 1, write a 1: (0.1011).

- since there is no more fraction, the final answer is (0.1011). Hope this helps.

Letters can be converted into decimal number using ASCII table. Every Character has it own equivalent number. Once converted into decimal (base 10), I could be easily converted into binary (base 2)
