Question about Teledyne Laars Laars Lite 2 Pool Heater 250,000 Btu / Natural Gas

1 Answer

Laars Lite 2

My pool heater makes all the 'right' sounds when I turn on the heater except is does not actually fire up. In other words, it cycles through and I smell gas but it does not ignite.

If the heater is "acting normal" with no failure codes and you smell gas, then I would bet it's the igniter. The fact that you smell gas indicates the heater does not have a failure in any of the safety circuits and wants to fire. It is just missing an ignition source or the gas you smell is not making it to the proper place to be ignited. Given these two options it is most often the igniter. Replacing the igniter is not difficult but it is a VERY delicate part and experience in handling it is benificial.

SOURCE: I have a Laars Lite 2 400,000 btu pool heater. It

It could be that the Igniter has gone bad. Or it cold be a number of other items, like the gas valve itself. If the heater has a display panel on it, is there an error code showing? If there is, go to your Owner's Manual and find out what the code is for the heater.

If you do not have a manual, you can find one online at the following link:

It sounds like your pool heater might have a defective controller (the part, not you). Check the controller and replace if necessary. It could also be that you need to cycle the ignition sequence until the air is out of the gas line. It could also possibly be that your gas valve needs to be replaced.

We have a laars lite 2 pool heater , the pilot is lit but the unit will not fire up

With these pool heaters, there are a couple of things that you can try before you call a pro. First, make sure that your gas valve knob is turned to the on position. Secondly, you could have air in your gas line. Cycle the ignition sequence until all air is out of the line. It could also be that your gas valve is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.

Burner cycles on and off within 2-5 seconds. What could the problem be? Model Teledyne Laars LLD250N

Sounds like the flame sensor. If the sensor doesn't see a flame, it shuts off. Good luck...Lee

Pool Heater will not fire up.

Older heaters with "Hot - Cold" turn control can attract spider webs etc. I had exactly your problem and just blew the inside of the control switch with compressed air to clean it out. My heater fired up after that clean up procedure. Hope this solves your problem!
