Lack of control over water level

Auto load sensing in W10026670B Kenmore 800 washer causes water level to be at abnormally low level to wash clothes. When lid is raised, however, the water level then goes to full high level. Is there any way to hack the washer to go to manual control of water level?

Three weeks ago bought new Kenmore washing machine. Kenmore 800. Model number W10026670B. Has a feature to save water called Auto Level Sensing (or something like that). The machine does not have a manual water level control as previous Kenmores have. This auto water level feature can be worked around if the lid is raised after the machine starts water filling. When that is done, the water level automatically goes to 'full' height. The problem is that there are many loads where the water level is wanted to be at 'medium' and not 'full.' So my question is: has anyone found a way to get back to manual water level control? Any way to progam the machine to allow this? Thanks.

Jan, thanks for your input but I am unclear what effect having access to the switch (outboarding it) will have on varying the water level. Whether the switch is left in place or is outside, it seems to have only one effect and that is (when not activated, water is too low), (when activated--lid open-- water goes all way to the full height).

As far as I can tell, the lid switch appears to operate only as an on-off contact. I am looking for a way to be able to vary the water level from low to high. I suspect the solution is going to be a software hack. Anyone out there know how to do that -- or have specific experience with doing it for this model? Thanks.

Look for the lid switch and disconnect it from the lid...connect extension of the switch outside by rope or anything that is non-conducting and try to control the water level..

with my suggestion you can vary the water level by activating and deactivating the switch..but if it drains continually upon deactivating it then it will not work..

First of all we need to check the coupler......
clik the link below on directions of how to check the coupler
http://www.affordableappliance.com/Tips/CouplerInstallation.htm
if coupler looks ok....
remove edge decore trims from left and right side front of control panel
remove phillips screws from bottom corners of contol panel
remove knob from water level selector
raise control panel ~1 inch then flip over backwords on pivots
depress lock tab on righ/underside of water level control body where it touches metal mount plate
rotate water level control body 90deg anticolckwise
pull body off
top side of body next to knob shaft is 1/8 hex head bolt
turn clockwise to rais water level
anticlockwise to lower water level
machine can be operated with this part not fitted so can check level.fill, adjust screw, fill will start again, adjust screw, until waterlevel is correct
reinstall in reverse order
Incidentally, the cause is a VERY small wire spring inside the controlbody that is not really up to the task, and stretches over years.
you may have to flip the switch between hi-med and back to get the water to restart filling

good luck.... if u feel i ve been of any help kindly rate my service.....

No problem just want to know if one can put clothes soaking in bucket into the machine and go straight to spin to get excess water out without going thru the whole washing process. Cheerz!

Hi - yes theres a few options start it on the final rinse and set your water level to low or auto sense then spin speed (this will add more water to stabilesde the spin cycle)

Could go direct to spin as well but you will need to adjust the clothing proper prior to starting of the cycle..

Error codes

Samsung Washer Fault Codes
4E WATER SUPPLY ERROR Water Supply Error occurs when water level frequency does not show changes more than 100Hz or water is not supplied up to the preset water level after 10 Minutes or more at the time of initial water supply. The error status can be cleared by turning the POWER switch OFF and back ON.
5E WATER DRAIN ERROR 5E is displayed if the water level frequency detected is 25 KHz or less in the initial phase of the UNB -detecting cycle. The Water Drainerror can be cleared by turning POWER SW OFF and back ON.
oE OVER-FLOW ERROR Over-Flow error occurs when the water level is too high. It can be cleared by turning POWER switch OFF. Water is drained prior to POWER switch OFF. The tub is drained for 2 minutes if a frequency of more than 25 KHz is detected.
UE UNBALANCE ERROR Laundry load is unbalanced, manually loosen any tangled laundry.

If only one item of clothing needs washing, such as a bathrobe or jeans, the final spin result might be unsatisfactory and an UE error message will be shown in the display. Unbalance error is cleared by POWER switch OFF and back ON.
HE WATER HEATER ERROR HE, HE1 is displayed if the water temperature rises by 7 C or more in 1 Min or by 2 C or less 20 Min after heating process has started. The error can be cleared by turning POWER switch OFF.
1 E WATER PRESSURE SWITCH ERROR * Generated Frequency Signal of WATER LEVEL (WIL) SIW (KHz)

Normal Level = Abnormal W/L Frequency
Low Level = 30.00 Khz High Level = 15.00 Khz

If the same signal is detected for more than 5 seconds, it is aPRESSURE SWITCH Error. When this error occurs the drain pump will operate for 3 min. and the display will show 1 E indicating a pressure switch error.
cE ABNORMAL WATER TEMPERATURE ERROR e.g. If the water temperature is 50 C or more, during a Delicate or Wool cycle.

At the time of initial water supply, if the water temperature is not appropriate, the display will show cE. This error can be cleared by POWER SWITCH OFF.
11 E WATER LEAKAGE ERROR Water Leakage error occurs when the water drains naturally, (by leakage) after the washing program starts.
tE THERMISTOR ERROR This error occurs when the Thermistor circuit is abnormal or a voltage of O.2v or below or, 4.5v and over is detected. This error can be cleared by POWER switch OFF.
3E MOTOR RESTRICTION ERROR Hall Sensor is sensed every 5OOms. 1 second after motor starts to work.

If data of hall sensor is less than 2 (2RPM), the Washing motor will stop at once.

During Washing and Rinsing when a motor restriction is sensed, the motor stops and then proceeds to the next water -flow action. If the motor stops working and this happens in one direction ten times, "3E" Error is displayed.

During dehydrating. when a motor restriction is sensed. the motor stops working and then returns to the initial stage of the dehydration unbalance sensing cycle. After ten times, "3E" Error isdisplayed, When the motor Is told to stop because of an operating function. no error is shown.

Power 81W OFF can clear the motor restriction error.
8E OVER CURRENT ERROR IPM fault signal (this is caused by the overload of the MICOM INTO during motor action).

IPM: Integrated power module. The IPM controls the motor.

If the fault (low signal) happens to be sensed even once during the washing/rinsing stage, the motor stops immediately. However, during the dehydrating stage the signal is to be sensed, when the number of signals reads more than 6 per 500ms during the Washing or Rinsing cycle action.

If the motor stops working, in one direction ten times, "8E" Error is displayed.

During dehydrating, when the overload is sensed, the motor stops working at once and then feeds back to the initial stage of the dehydration unbalance sensing. When the feed back has occcurred twice, Error "8E" is displayed during the dehydrating unbalance sensing, No error happens by overload sensing. When it happens at more than 800rpm, the process is stopped compulsorily. Power Switch OFF can clear the overload error.

Uses to much water, fiils half way up the glass with water///and really uses alot of water on express wash

Set the washer with a low water level settting to confirm if the clothes are soaked in , if the water level does not go down it is possible that the water level pressure switch is faulty.

Is there a water level setting control for the washer or does it automatically detect and control that? I wondered if the control that has the options high/med/low/hang dry/no spin(lights are on or off...

Water level is determined automatically by the load in the machine. A pressure switch senses the water level after the clothes soak up all they can and just enough more is added. The settings as you suspect are for the spin speed.

The first thing seems to be the timer,or the water level switch. Try filling the washer with water by hand, if it starts to agitate after being filled its the timer, if not it is the water level switch, let me know if you need further assistance.

Top load Kenmore 800 washer will not fill with water

OK - I have a solution to my problem with this washing machine. Nothing would work except for one of the spin cycles. I thought it was the main switch - the cycle selection and start switch - but I was wrong. The service tech replaced the switch behind the fabric softener. It's the switch that controls the water levels. Part # W10292584. Our government is forcing the manufacturers to put controls on the washing machine to save water. It's a bad idea and is causing lots of problems. Tech says he's replacing them on a regular basis. Less than $100 if you do it yourself. Hope this helps.

Water level adjustment

You don't. Front load washers use only a very small amount of water. They fill a small amount, tumble a bit, resulting in water being absorbed into the clothes, which drops the water level in the tub. The washer senses this and adds more water, which repeats until water level stabilizes. The only way to get more water on wash cycles is to use delicate cycles, which use more water, resulting in a more gentle wash action. Remember that due to the low water consumption of front load washers, you should only use one tablespoon of HE detergent per cycle. (even less if you use 2x or 3x concentrate.) This is a FixYa solution. Your washer is working as designed.

My washer doesn't get enough water in it to wash properally. There isn't a water level knob on the washer. Its a frontloading whirlpool.

There is most likely nothing wrong with the washer. Front load washers will only fill about 2 inches of water in the tub. As the load starts to tumble, water is absorbed into the clothes, causing the water level to drop. The machine senses this and adds more water. The process continues until the water level stabilizes. (thus no need for a water level switch) Your clothes should get wet, but you will little if any water. If you use a gentle cycle you will get slightly more water, as the washers tumble at the same speed for all cycles, but give a more gentile wash if there is more water in the drum.
Also,..... remember because you have so little water in a front load washer (compared to most all top loader models) you want to use only 1 to 2 (max) tablespoons of HE detergent per load!
