Look inside the housing and you will see where the brake spring attached. Flip this part and it should unlock it

SOURCE: how do you reset the chain brake?

You have to pull it back as if it were still on the saw until it clicks. I may be hard, but that is what you have to do.

SOURCE: Bar cover will not fit due to clutch not opening up far enough.

Immobilize the clutch cover (blocks of wood on a flat surface to protect the finish) in a vise or to a work surface.

Use pliers or a crescent wrench and rotate it until it latches open. This requires some force.

How to reassemble chain brake on an Echo CS-350T that jammed and was pulled apart by someone else?

From what I see you will need assemble thing leaving the main spring and brake cover off. Before attempting to put the main back in install a clutch drum inside the brake band. Then you slip on the main spring and pry the end on with a flat blade screw driver. Now install in the cover for the spring and brake. Reset the chain brake and remove the drum.

Now install the chain brake on the saw and test. Do not trip the chain brake without the clutch drum in place. If these are anything like the Husqvarna version after they get worn they will get where it is nearly impossible to reset.

HUSQVARNA MODEL 435 CHAIN SAW.....BRAND NEW IN JUNE...NEVER USED....WITH BLADE, CHAIN, AND SIDE COVER (TENSIONER ASSY) REMOVED, IT RUNS FINE......WHEN CHAIN BAR , CHAIN, AND COVER ARE REINSTALLED AND...

There is a number of ways to re load the brake, you can either remove the clutch and sprocket, the brake will then go back onto the saw enabling you to use the hand guard on the saw to load the brake ( to remove the clutch, there are two cut a ways in the clutch centre designed to enter a flat screw driver into, then strike with a suitable hammer to remove, it is a left hand thread ) or you can remove the hand guard from the saw and use this as a tool to re load the brake, or you can clamp the cover in a vice ( be carefull not to damage the cover ) then use a strudy pair of pliers or grips in the three legged loading mechanism and turn it to load the brake.

I can't get the clutch cover back on my Jonesrud CS 2150 after taking it off when the chain was binding. I suspect I had the brake in the on position when I tried removing the chain.

I think you are right, the brake is on and the band is now smaller than the drum, you need to load the brake, there is a number of ways to do this, either remove the hand guard from the saw, then use this to engage into the brake mechanism and pull firmly back until the brake clicks off, or you can remove the clutch and sprocket, the brake will then fit easily back onto the saw and you can load it in the usual way, to remove the clutch insert a screw driver into one of the cut a ways in the clutch centre, using a suitable hammer strike the end of the screw driver to jar the clutch off against the compression of the saw, the clutch is just threaded onto the crank with a left hand thread.

Brake on poulon chainsaw 18"

The brake on this machine is a knee link design, this is an over centre catch, if there is excessive dirt under the over centre mechanism it will not lock properly and so come on prematurley, you need to remove the brake from the machine, activate the brake to release most of the spring tention, remove the hand guard fixing screw and collers, remove the hand guard carefully remove the screws securing the spring cover, be aware there is a compression spring under here, inspect the internal components, clean out any accumulated dirt and debris, replace the cover and hand guard, load the brake by pulling the hand guard fully back, the other option is to just replace the complete brake assembly part no. 530054740

Unable to release chain brake on Poulan 2150 2.1c.i. Unable to reassemble the chain brake cover.

You should have released the chain brake before removing the side cover. Try using a wide, heavy, flat-blade screwdriver to release the toggle mechanism for the brake in the outer cover which should expand the brake ring to allow it to go over the clutch drum. Hope this helps!

How do you re assembly brake handle poulan 2150

Hello Larsens;
A Poulan "2150 Predator Gas Type 6" IPL follows (may not be your saw)(the LE suffix is a Wood Shark) http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/2150-Predator-Gas-Saw-Type-6/75.2150-Predator-Gas-Saw-Type-6.1.59.1.html
There is no breakdown, they want you to order a new cover $20±. The cover appears on different print names with different models (Handle & External Assembly) above.

The dash number of your serial number is the type.

Do you have a friend with a cover you can look at? The brake will need to be lached open (enlarged) to refit the clutch cover on your saw.

Detail A here is a good representation of a Husky chain brake, they are all similar and this may be helpful.

I have an Echo CS-440 18" chain saw and the chain came off. Now that I have put it back on, it won't move either by hand or when the engine is running. Help

OK.  This is simple. Either the chain brake is engaged or the chain is too tight. Start by pulling back on the chain brake toward you.  There should be a "click" if the brake was released.  If the chain is still immovable, try resetting the chain tension. 1. remove the spark plug wire 2. loosen the two clutch cover nuts 3.hold the bar nose up and loosen the tension adjustment screw until the chain moves freely without becoming loose. 4. tighten both clutch cover nuts with the bar held up. 5. Pull the chain around the bar by hand.  Loosen the adjustment if you feel tight spots. 6. When the chain is properly tensioned, tighten clutch cover nuts securely.  Do not overtighten! 7.  Check chain brake operation and release. 8. Replace spark plug wire and operate  saw.
Hope this solution will Fixya.

CHAINSAW BRAKE LOCKED ON HUSQVARNA 455 RANCHER HELP PLEASE?

I used applman08's solution. A few pointers:
0. This problem occurs when you take off the side cover while the brake is set. So after you fix this, don't do that again.
1. When removing the clutch, place the screwdriver in the notch next to where it says "off" and tilt the screwdriver down so that when you strike it you are applying a clockwise shock force that is almost horizontal (assuming your 455 is on its side).
2. DO NOT remove the spring! There is a plastic housing that basically holds the brake mechanism in place (secured by 4 screws). If you take that apart, and then take out the spring, you will be learning how the brake works and spending some time compressing that spring and getting it back in. You'll have to come up with something clever to get the spring in depending on tools available.
3. Going back to 1. - get that clutch off, put the side cover back on, getting that brake lever lined up with the very-difficult-to-grab three-toothed mechanism for engaging the spring. Tighten down the side cover, or hold it snug with one hand while you lever the brake handle with the other. You will hear a satisfying snap as the braking mechanism (with the spring I told you not to mess with) resets.
Note: You can probably reset the braking mechanism by manually turning that three toothed gizmo but it's really hard to grab and the brake handle fits it perfectly. The key is you've got to turn that about 60 degrees.
Good luck, this was an annoying problem.
