How to Restore Disabled Folder Pane in Windows Explorer

Problem:
When you open Windows Explorer, the left hand Folders pane is disabled or gray or blank and the folder tree on left is not available.

Cause:
There may be an error in the registry. A required system file is missing or an incorrect version.

Solutions:
Close Windows Explorer.
Start the Registry Editor (click Start, Run, type regedit and click OK).

Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
In the right-hand pane, locate the value named ExplorerBar. If present, delete it.
Restart Windows Explorer. If this does not resolve the issue,
The correct solution depends on the version of Internet Explorer that is installed on the computer.Internet Explorer 5.5 or lower
The preferred solution for computers with Internet Explorer 5.5 or lower is to upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer.
If this is not possible:
Open the folder C:\Windows\System. Check that the file browseui.dll is present. If it is not present, restore this file.
Internet Explorer 6
Open the folder C:\Windows\System. Check that the file shdocvw.dll is present. If it is not present, restore this file.
Open a command prompt.
Enter the command cd \Windows\System
Verify that the command prompt shows C:\Windows\System.

Enter the command regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll.
Enter the command regsvr32 /i browseui.dll.

A message will appear confirming the successful registration of the files.

Now restart the sytem and confirm the problem is solved.

Using usb stick

First you will have either copy and pate the movie or download it to your usb drive

One of the benefits of putting files on a USB flash drive is that you can make any type of file portable.

This includes not only documents, spreadsheets and photos, but also media like video clips and movies.

If you have movies saved on your flash drive that you want to view, watching the movies directly from the USB drive is a simple process and can be achieved on almost any computer.

Connect your USB drive to the device on which you want to watch your movies.

This includes all USB-compatible computers, as well as some select television-compatible devices (like the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or Sony Media Extender).

Launch the file explorer application on your device.

In Windows, access this utility by accessing the "Computer" application and then double-clicking the USB drive to display the files.

If you are trying to watch the movie files on a compatible television device, look for a "media," "device" or "USB input" application or button to bring up the file explorer.

Select the movie file you want to play.

In Windows, do this by double-clicking on the file.

The appropriate media-handling program should automatically launch and begin playing the movie automatically.

If you are using a television device, select the file from the list of compatible files in the device's internal explorer system.

hope this helps

Free computer instructions on how to save a document on a usb flash drive

Assuming the thumb drive is working and the computer's ports are working and has sufficient space, you use the drive like a floppy disc. Plug it in and wait until the computer recognizes it. Either edit the document in the appropriate program and then save it to the USB drive (for most File > Save As, choose location and name the file (if needed) and then click Save or OK).

Alternatively, use the File Explorer (in Windows) and navigate to the directory where the file is stored (Computer (My Computer) > Users/(user_id)/My Documents (or My Pictures or whatever folder) is the default for many applications these days). Left click on the file and drag to the USB drive on the left column (under Computer); it should default to asking if you.

You can also can right click to select move or copy. (Using two File Explorer windows (one for the hard drive's directory and one for the thumb drive) is also an option and will let you check the dates on the file(s) if you want that information and have File Explorer giving the details.)

When done, click on Safely Remove Hardware (in the taskbar) or right click and select Eject (in the File Explorer). When the computer signals that you can remove the drive, do so. (If you skip this step, you may remove the drive while data is being written and loose part of the document.)

I hope this helps.
