Question about GE Profile Spacemaker 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave

Bulb on ge microwave keeps burning out

Replaced the bulb several times on the left underneath side of the microwave for them to short out (burn out) within a couple of uses. Went ahead and replaced the whole socket, new bulb & it lasted for 20-25 times & then bulb burnt out again. Do I need to replace the wiring harness at this point? Find it odd that I get continually bad bulbs so there must be another problem. Wiring harness looks fine. Thank you.

There may be a couple of problems that cause this problem. If there is some type of a clear sheild over the bulb then it may be defective and let the microwave energy go to the bulb and burn it out. Another problem may be with the bulb itself. Have you tried using a different brand of bulb? Good luck.

This is an above the stove unit. Rarely use the microwave just mainly the lights. Yes two different brands of bulbs with same scenerio. So you don't think this has anything to do with the wiring harness? In my mind if it was harnass I'd be blowing out both bulbs rather than just the left one (as you look at the unit). Thank you!

I liked the idea of trying out the 40 Watt LED bulb but cannot seem to find one with an intermediate base. Any suggstions? Thanks!

There are a lot od different light bulb adaptors listed on Ebay. Check them out, I'm sure you will find what you need. Let me know if it works out. Just be sure there is enough clearance. Good luck, Martyhttp://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=candelabra+light+bulb+adaptors&_sacat=0&_from=R40

Hi anything is possible being that you even replaced two different brands of bulbs. I don't think the wiring harness is the problem but like I said anything could be the problem. Might I make a suggestion. Why not replace both the left and right side bulbs with LED bulbs with the same base configuration. Maybe that just might be able to solve your problem. I would like to know if it does. It also seems that a lot of others are having the exact problem. Good luck.

I found on Amazon.com: GRV E17 80-3014 SMD High Power LED Bulb sold by GRV-LED in a pack of 2 for $12.99. LED is the way to go since it eliminates the bulb filament which can survive in the microwave application.

I have the same problem. The left one burns out within a couple of hours use, the other one lasts a couple of months and is then gone. This pattern has repeated over 8 years. I replace them every now and then and then just go without until I get the urge again to fix it. Maybe smaller lower wattage lamps are worth trying...

You know how when you turn on a regular light bulb and it burns out with a bright flash? What happens is that when the filament burns out, it breaks and bounces back and hits the other electrical post and basically shorts out causing that bright flash. Sometimes, when 1 of the light bulbs in the microwave burned out, it shorted out, and caused the circuit-board trace to burn up. (This is not just conjecture; I've seen it.) If that's the case, then you would have to replace the main control circuit board. A rather expensive repair for no lights. BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT, get an ohmmeter and check your new light light bulbs and make sure they are really good. Also, if you can, get a bright flashlight and check the light bulb sockets in the microwave (unplug it first). Check for possible corrosion or signs of arcing on the center electrode of the socket. If that's the problem, you might be able to use a small screwdriver to scrape off the corrosion of the socket (make absolutely sure you have your microwave oven unplugged before you do that!).

Change light bulb GE MOnogram Advantium Microwave oven

I have included a schematic of the interior of the built in Monogram Advantium Microwave oven Model KSC1001. The interior halogen light burned out and had to be replaced. GE service wanted $138 to come out & service it. I tried to find instructions on how to take it apart and remove the bulb & replace it on the WEB but had no luck with the Monogram series so I went to the dealer in Denver, CO and talked with their technicians and they gave me the schematic and sold me 2 bulbs for $11.00. The halogen bulbs can be purchased at Home Depot for about the same price. They are 35 watt with wide metal connectors.

Mine has 2 side trim pieces so these have to be removed first. They have latches on the top that slide behind the sides of the microwave and attach at the top. After removing the 4 screws holding the trim pieces, slide these upwards and then pull out to the sides. 2.) pull the microwave out and set it on a solid surface. 3.) there are approximately 23 screws that need to come out before you can slide & life the cover off the microwave 4.) Then look inside towards the front and left side (looking from the rear forward) for a small metal cover. There are 2 screws that hold it down. 5). Unscrew the 2 screws and gently lift the metal container up. This is the housing for the light bulb. 6.) gently pull the old bulb out and using gloves or a cloth insert the new bulb. You need to keep oils from your fingers from getting on the bulbs. The oils make the bulbs burn out quicker 7.) Put the container back and screw in the 2 screws being careful not to dislodge any wiring 8.) Slide the cover back on and replace all the screws 9.) plug it into an outlet and open the door to make sure the light works 10.) replace the microwave, plug it in and put the trim pieces back on. 11.) go to a movie with the money you just saved

Mine burned out within a month. Probably due to the poor design of the machine which forces you to slam the door to get it to shut.
My biggest concern is the under counter lightbulbs it has burned out in my kitchen over the last year. I wonder how much leaking this thing really gives off. Moving in a few weeks and will be throwing this cancer machine out.

Are you keeping them on all the time?

Or is the the microwave subject to excessive vibration or door slamming while the lights are on?

Both these conditions are factors in premature bulb failure.

I would also avoid cheap Chinese bulbs from grocery stores and get the GE-specified bulbs either from here online or a local home center such as Lowe's or Home Depot. etc.

40 watt night light bulbs constantly burn out short out.

Is they are left on all the time, this can reduce their life, and they are more susceptible to vibration.

Have you checked at home center or home improvement centers like Lowe's, Builder's Square or Home Depot?

You can order quality parts such as lamps by entering your full model number or part number WB36X10003 here.

Always be sure the microwave is unplugged or the breaker is off when installing or removing bulbs, and be sure the bulbs and and your hands are clean when installing them.
