Question about Seagate FreeAgent Pro Desktop - 320GB - 7200rpm - 480Mbps USB 2.0, 300Mbps External SATA ... Hard Drive

External Hard Drive I/O Error

Hello,

I have a brand new FreeAgent | Deskā„¢ 1.0-TB USB 2.0 Drive http://tinyurl.com/FreeAgent-Desk

After backing up all my data, approx. 120 GB i shut down my desktop and after few hours i wanted to backup some more. but the drive is no longer accessible. I get 2 different I/O error every time i double click on my drive icon on both my desktop with Windows XP SP3 & Sony VAIO with Windows Vista SP2.
Please check Screenshots:
Error 1 http://f.imagehost.org/0325/Hard_drive_error1.png &
Error 2 http://f.imagehost.org/0389/Hard_drive_error2.png

Some of the data in the hard drive was valuable so i used seagate's file recovery for windows and was able to recover the data. The complete contents of the hard drive were accessible for recovery via the software. but the hard disk still gives I/O error and is not accessible. I'm not concerned about the data as i already have it on my other drive.
I Want to format the hard drive and make it usable. Please help.

I have backed up one Mac laptop on to the ministation3.0 and want to open my files from a different lap top but it is telling me (on new laptop) that I don't have permissions to access. Went back to original lap top to unlock the ministation and it doesn't give me an option. Please help :)

Somehow i tried to format and it was formatted. took pretty long time as 1 terabyte. i thought all is ok as the drive was accessible. Just to double check, i scanned the drive thorugh the seagate manager and it got stuck on 10% for few seconds and then said that the hard disk is faulty and should be immediately returned if under warranty. and to confirm it also gave me read errors http://www.dtidata.com/resourcecenter/2007/05/15/how-to-tell-hard-drive-physical-damage/

so i'm giving it to seagate service centre as it probably has physical faults, bad sectors. and someone told me that 1TB hard drives are not stable.

Why does my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex, 1.5 TB, external hard drive USB 2.0 make a clicking sound and will not connect to my Satellite receiver?

Does the drive work with a computer? This is an important test to determine if the drive is bad, or if it is an interface problem. Check the satellite receiver instructions for using external USB devices. Many times, these types of devices do not have interfaces with drivers for external hard drives.

Andre,

Try Testdisk to see if there are any issues with the drive and if necessary repair or create a new boot sector.

I just bought a Seagate 2 TB desktop drive for Mac and PC, it works on my PC but nothing happens on the MacBook

If the Seagate hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS then the MAC cannot read and write to this hard drive.
To exchange data between the PC and MAC then the Seagate hard drive needs to be formatted on a PC in FAT32 not NTFS.

My Pc's, one have windows xp, the other, with windows 7 Home P, not reconized the External Disk FreeAgent GoFlex Desk of 2 Tb. Please, help us. Thanks

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
hope this helps

My Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1 TB worked for several days but is now telling me it has an error:1013 on every file it backed up. The icon is showing red. What does this error:1013 mean??

There is about a 40% failure rate on these drives which is extremely high. The problem is a error in the onboard bios. If it is still working you can apply a update that will fix it. If it has "bricked" or locked up then you are out of luck. You can try to return it under warrenty. If you have important data on the drive then you may need the services of a data recovery company to get it off ie $$$ to do.
