You need to install (1) the webcam driver (from the laptop manufacturer's website), and (2) the webcam software. If your laptop manufacturer does not provide the webcam software, then you can use manycam.com's webcam software.
You need to install the WEBcam driver from the installation CD that was supplied or download the WEBcam driver from the WEBcam manufacturer's WEB site. If the WEBcam is built-in on your laptop then you can install the WEBcam driver from the installation CD or download the WEBcam driver from the laptop manufacturer's WEB site.
Since you did not post your laptop/webcam type, here is what you need to do.
Google the following if you have a built in webcam (laptop with built in webcam): "YOUR LAPTOP BRAND AND MODEL webcam driver download". replace YOUR LAPTOP BRAND AND MODEL with your laptop's brand and model, for example: "Dell Inspiron XT300 webcam driver download"
You will be prompted with link(s), find the one that seems to point you to the correct page, usually supplied by the company/brand and model of your laptop. Download the driver, and then install it. You might be prompted to restart your computer after installation.
For the Dell Latitude E6400 The Webcam is actually optional. To check whether you have it on your laptop look at the top of your screen. On the left of the display latch, you are supposed to find 3 items there if you have a webcam. The left most side is the microphone, so it is actually a very small hole, followed by a small light, the indicator for the webcam and a small circular one that is the webcam. If you do not have any of these on the left side of that latch then your latitude did not come with a webcam.
From my experience, you will need a whole new chipset, which requires a new laptop, unless the chipset supports the new processor, then you open the case up and take out the processor replace with the new one. I would take it to your local computer repair shop because there is a lot of things that could go wrong when doing it by yourself and end up costing you a lot more. I hope this helps!
if ur webcam is not working what u can do is first of all u can uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the webcam and then try ur webcam and still if it doesnt work restart ur computer once and then connect the webcam and try it out and still if it doesnt work then replace the webcam and get a new webcam which is compatible with ur computer.
