Question about Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

DC07 switching off & overheating

My DC07 has also just started to overheat and then switch off after about 5 minutes. A few people have spoke about a possible blockage, even though I keep mine clean. I am going to take it apart as much as I can and clean - I will report back if diagonis is found, if not, then I will have to take it to a proper engineer!

You can unclip the hose from the main body of the machine and you may be able to see any blockages as a result. Check your belt, beaterbar and replace your filters also. Make sure there is no blockage near the top of the machineover the small holes in the dust collection area.

DYSON DC07 ORIGIN BRUSH ROLLERS WONT ROLL WHEN HOVVERING BURNING SMELL AND SMOKE FROM BOTTOM OF HOVER ROLLERS WILL MOVE BY HAND ANY IDEAS, THERES NO BLOCKAGES.

Hi There,
Ok so I have made a few videos about what to check when you have issues like this.
THere are 3 possible causes.
1. THe bearings in the brush roller are worn so even though you can turn it by hand the belt cannot.
2. The clutch belts are too stretched and are slipping causing them to heat up and start to melt.
3. The roller on the clutch has melted as a result of the heat from teh belt.
From experience the most likely cause is that the bearings are worn and likely the belts are stretched. I will link a video from our youtube channel watch the one I link and then do a search within the channel for DC07 and you will see the other videos.
You should be able to get away with just replacing the bearings or the belts. I will say that if you have got to the point where you are having issues with the front end I would encourage you to replace the DC07 filters too normally they have a similar lifespan.

Swithes itself off after approximately 5 minutes?? is ready to use again approx 15 mins later but again only for 5 mins ? Angela

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC07 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage, or because the filters need a wash. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-SY

The correct way to wash the filters is shown in the video embedded below. The filters should be washed in cold water at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure they're totally dry before replacing them.

Hopefully this should resolve your issue. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

Jack

Automatically shuts off after about 10 minutes of vacuuming. restarts after 45 minutes and repeats the process. We have clean the filters several times with slight relief from this issue but comes back...

Is it possible to overheat the motor?

This can happen , normally if the filters are kept clean and replaced now and again the motor should last quite a few years if it does overheat then it has a thermal cut off that resets after it cools down ,,Hope this is of some help

It will not stay on once I take my finger off of the red start button. I have thoroughly cleaned the unit and filter - so there is no blockage

Most likely the ratchet mechanism on the switch is faulty.

Switches are available if you search oneBayfor a few pounds, and if you've reasonable DIY skills and tools, it's fairly easy to do.

Have a look athttp://www.dysonmedic.com/DC07%20Folder/DC07%20Motor%20change.htmlwhich has some great info.

Dyson dc07 keeps cutting out after few minutes

This is a sure sign of a blockage. The motor cuts out because it gets too hot and will start again when it has cooled. Follow the instructions in your user manual for clearing blockages (you can download a copy from the Dyson website if necessary). Make sure the washable filter is clean too (and completely dry before you use it).

This is from the Dyson web page:
Get expert help Thermal cut out Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filter needs washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine turns off on its own, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down. Remember to check the filter and look for blockages before re-starting.
Any non- domestic use may adversely affect the filter performance such as vacuuming up plaster dust.

Sounds like your vacuum is overheating. Check the above.
