I would suspect the positive battery cable is defective. Have seen this many times before.

SOURCE: starter

the most common problem would be the starter relay,
the contacts burn out so just replace the relay.

SOURCE: craftsman riding mower repair starter will spin but not engage

You need to buy a Starter Drive Kit. If you starter has a flat piece on top held on by a retaining ring, it's part # 696541. If you have the older type starter with roll pin holding the drive on, you need part # 696540. You probably have the first one. To install the retaining ring, use a 3/8 socket to tap it into the groove. Dwain

JOHN DEERE L115 WON'T engage starter?

Need a little more it is doing nothing Check the battery if ok it may be your starter solenoid try this turn your key to on and using a jumper wire or screwdriver and connect ( cross the two large connectors on the selonoid ) it should turn the engine over. If you hear clicking but not turning over It most likely a bad starter. If the starter clicks and spins but not turning is the gear on the end of the starter it most likely stripped as many are plastic....need to remove the starter and check ok try doing a bench test..just use any 12 volt supply..attach the hot wire ( +) to the connector on the starter and attach the neg ( ground ) to the starter should click, push the gear upward and spin..if not NEW STARTER...hope this helps..if not let me know what you more thing if nothing at all may be one of the safey switches. Good luc

Starter motor is not good

Before removing the starter check the battery terminals and wires for tightness and are free from ciorrosin build up which will affect the starter performing.. If it is missing engaging the ring gear it will have to come out for repair/ replacement. If it just clicks when you turn the key. check battery with a load test for a dead cell and low charge

I have a 1997 onan emerald series GenSet 6500 I have been thru 4 starters it keeps breaking the drive gear assmbly WHAT CAN I DO PLEASE ITS ALREADY COST ME 400.00

Have you replaced the solinoid too? If not, maybe the solinoid is staying engaged, which keeps your starter, well starting. If the starter stays energised the flywheel WILL tear up the starter gear.

hope this helps

Solenoid clicks will not engage 4000KW Onan

4000 kW is a very big generator. I asume that your is 4000W = 4 kW.
If - with electrical start it should be MicroQuiet 4000.
Never mind by all types of electricaly started engines this will mean:

If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid only clicks, but neither the starter motor is turning, nor the bendix wheel is engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that battery voltage is low, in order to engage the bendix and make its power contact, or the bendix is mechanicaly blocked.
If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid clicks, the starter motor is not turning, but the bendix wheel is engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that the bendix relay power contacts are bad or starter motor collector or brushes are bad.
If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid clicks, the starter motor is turning with a scratching sound, the bendix wheel is partially or not engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that the bendix throw out lever is bent or broken, or the wheels on bendix and flywheel are worn out..

I would think the starter you need would be the 90 camaro one, and not the 89 blazer, as you still are dealing with a camaro tranny and flex plate. Inspect your ring gear closely when you have the starter off, and make sure the teeth aren't buggered. Let me know what you find. Good luck.

Onan model 5BGMFA26105D GENERATOR need to replace starter and solenoid. starter will not engage.

Hi, well i would take the starter motor off and check out the "Bendix" spring, that is the part that "Throws" the start gear into contact to mesh with the starter ring gear. Often these simply "Seize" and need a good whack and lube... try that first before outlaying any money, this just may fix it. Also check to see if the solenoid is OK, do this by applying 12 V DC to the solenoid, wires, and see if it activates, also check that the "Contacts" aren't "Blown Off" by putting a meter set to OHMS across the solenoid contacts and when activated it should go "Short Circuit" across the terminals.

Deere 318 with Onan B43G won't start w/ starter engaged, but if the engine "catches" when I turn off igniton, it runs fine. I can only get it to start by pulsing the starter on and off--only starts when...

318's are known to have flywheel problems and poor engagement of the starter due to incorrect alignment of the starter to the ring gear.To check either of these things you need to take the motor out of the tractor to look at the ring gear, starter drive and starter aliggnment. Before you go through this pain replace the ignition switch or have it tested.p.s deere only supplies a replacement flywheel but a ring gear can be ordered through a case dealer if you get it for a stinner with the onan engine.

Onan Microquiet 4000 starter will spin but not turn engine

bendix is actual the spring that pushes the gear back out of the ring gears engagement your issue is more likely a rusted /corrodied incline engagemnt gear a little lube will probably bring ti right back (do not us WD_40) this is not a lubricant it is an anti lubricant any light oil will do Good Luck
