Question about Pentair Mastertemp Heater

1 Answer

There is water coming out of the manifold

I just opened the pool and have not turned on the heater at all. Today, when I turned on the pool there was a pool of water around the heater. I opened the panels on both sides and on the backside there was water coming out out the white round manifold where the gas comes in. It fills the chamber about 1/4 full and after I turn the pump off it recedes.

Water is coming out of where? Are you saying that is coming out of the vent pipe that the exhaust gas comes out of or blows out of?

if so, you have ruptured the internal heat coil. Big job!

SOURCE: service light on

I just had the same problem resolved, my mastertemp 400 would run up the temp to 82F and then cutoff, the service light flashes and then 50 seconds later the heater would restart and run for 2 minnutesbefore shutting down again and relighting in 50 seconds. Repeating until the temp setting is reached.

I had the pool guy out 3 times until he found a bad thermal regulator valve (kit #77707-0010). Once replaced the heater runs great.

He told me that it's my pool chemestry that is to blame, I had it checked (like I do weekely by me and monthly by the pool supply store) and it perfect??? I'm now questioning what caused the corroson and stop it from coming back?

I hope tis helps.

SOURCE: Purex Triton Minimax 400 pool/spa heater not igniting

This sounds like you have a problem with your pilot. You can check this with a small mirror to see if their is a spark when you turn it on. If you have any soot build up on the pilot that will stop the spark and keep it from lighting also. If you have a short on your pilot wire this could be the problem also. I hope this helps, good luck.

SOURCE: E04 comes on after fan purge cycle-Pentair minimax nt pool heater

This is a fan falure code. It can mean the fan has problems (not likley if the fan goes and isn't labored) You have a sensor in your exaust (probally not this if you don't get a good start) The culperet is probally in the negetive pressure sensor. This is a 2-3 inch disc with wires going to the controls and a rubber tube going to the fan. Pull the tube from the fan and make sure the fan fitting is clear (poke with a tooth pic) Be sure their are no kinks in the hose. If the heater is 4 years old the diaprahm could be bad in the pressure sensor. Check the other things first but this is probally your problem. Good luck, hope this helped.

What would cause the return manifold get so hot it would melt? Water was running thru the manifold and was returning to the pool.

It sounds like the internal by-pass is stuck open, and is not forcing enough water through the heat exchange. The Hi-Limit switches should have shut off the heater before damage occurred, so you have more than one problem with this heater.

I have a Pentair minimax 250k electronic. Opened pool today and when I turned power on to the heater, it won't get through startup sequence. Dashed lines flash, then 888 and service light comes on. ...

Most of the time I have found the problem to be the thermistor. It is located on the water manifold of the heater. Usually the panel lights, flashes then to 888 and back to dashed lines. SW light is green, and service light is red. It costs 25 to 45 dollars, and takes 5 minutes to repair. New thermistor looks identical to old so replacing it is very easy.

Heating but no hot water? i can feel the heat coming off the heater but not getting any hot water?? plz help. i have a raypak rp2100

You have a spring loaded valve inside the water manifold. Open the manifold and make sure that that valve is closing. Then or first make sure if you have a by-pass valve be sure that is almost closed.these will make sure that the water is going through the heater. Also remember you shouldn't be able to feel any hot water at the returns. That is part of what these valves do. They help keep anyone from getting scolded by too hot water. The water at the return should be no more than 7 to 10 degrees hotter than when it goes into the heater.

What does CFH mean on your pool heater and how do you fix it?

CFH is call for heat and the flame is about to come up. The banging you hear is the water inside the heater overheating to a boil. What you have is a water flow problem. If you have a valve bridging the water into the heater and the water going out be sure this valve is 80-90% closed so it forces water through the heater. If not you may have a problem inside the water manifold on the side of the heater. Their is a water by pass disc inside the header if stuck open will cause the same problem. Also check your baskets and filter to be sure they are clean.

Heater has a clonking sound when running ans the

SF is a code for excessive temp difference of water coming in and going out. The banging or clonking you here is the water in the heater overheating and boiling. You have a problem with your internal by-pass. It is broken or stuck open and letting most of the water go past the heater and the water in the heater is not moving so it can overheat. This is located inside the water manifold on the side of the heater. If you spin the two big nuts off the water pipes their are twelve nuts holding the manifold on. The by-pass and thermal valve are both inside and since you have it open you should replace both as the thermal valve has probally been hurt from the excessive heat. Then just put it back together and you should be all set. Good luck.

I let my pool heater freeze

Once a Pool / Jacuzzi heater freezes they will haunt you again and again. You fix one leak and weeks or months later another one appears. Sometimes the only damge done is just the manifold gasket. It would be worth HANDS ON repair "estimate" to find out if it is the manifold or the heat exchanger that has failed. If the heat exchanger has failed BUY A NEW ONE.

Sta-rite heater error code 126

The 126 is not an error code, but it maybe the temp of the water that the heater is reading. If the heater thinks the water is 126 degrees, it will not start at all.

If the heater is reading the wrong water temp, the problem is the Thermister, which is the sensor that is suppose to read the water temp. You will need to replace this sensor in order to correct the problem with the heater. It is really easy to do!

If you have a manual for the heater, if you go to the Replacement Parts Listing for the Electrical System, page 53 in the online version, the Thermistor is Item #9. It goes into the left side of the manifold in the to place, between the first two manifold bolts.

My Lars pool heater is leaking from within the casing.

Could also be a pin hole in the small copper tube that runs from the top of the heater to the thermostat. This has happened to me a few times. Small hole, but lots of water comes out. Get some 3/8" copper tubing and 2 compression fittings. It is easy to replace this tube. The only pain is that you have to take off the top of the heater to reach the end of the tube.
