Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Water drips from freezer and runs down to bottom of refrigerator, under slide out storage bins. After a few days, you need to mop up water. Otherwise it works great. What is wrong.

Ice forming on bottom of freezer compartment under freezer baskets...then finding water on the floor. Frequency is once every few days...Fridge is a Kichenaid KFIS27CXMS5

The unit defrosts itself and the water runs down a tube into the drip pan under the base. There is a coil (condenser) that gets warm and helps to evaporate the water in the pan. These things get very dusty and gross. Remove the front kick panel and clean the drip pan, check the drain hose for obstruction all the way to the evaporator coil in the freezer and make sure the unit is level.

Where can I access the defrost drain hole in my Kenmore model 253.74879404 Refrigerator? Disassembling the freezer did not work.

I've used used a compressor for that drain hole at the back of the fridge. A hanger wire will work too. I've never tried it but maybe a can of compressed air might work also.
The water drain line is plugged and that little catch tray is overflowing. That's why you're ending up with water under your bins inside the fridge. The problem is not in the freezer or else you'd have a skating rink on the floor of the freezer.
I don't recognize the photos exactly but they're all the same principle. Take everything out of the fridge , including the racks. It's far easier than o find the screws and disassemble the drain "catchall".
Good luck.

The water builds up on the bottom of my fridge under the bins. It is dripping down the inside back wall from the top area

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curtain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Water leaking along back interior to bottom under & over veggie bins

Sounds like the drain to the drip pan is clogged -- maybe with ice.

Defrost water runs down to a drain in the bottom of the fridge and into a pan underneath where it evaporates.

Sounds like the defrost water is not reaching its final destination.

Here's the way the same problem was solved earlier today:

For those who have this problem with this model: The drip pan is in an open space on the back side of the refrigerator. There is a rubber spout that empties into it. But to clear clogs...you must take out the shelves from the freezer, unscrew and remove the back panel on the inside of the freezer. There you will see the water exit. Boiling water cleared it out.

Accumulation of water in bottom of fridge

You probably need a new door deal for the freezer. When you cet too much condensation in the freezer, it drains down the back of the refrigerator section during the defrost cycle. Check under the produce bins for a drain. If you don't have one, you're not alone. I used to have have to wipe mine out every other day until I finally replaced the seal.

Estate TT21AKXKQ Refrigerator Leak

sounds like you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you acess to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somwhere, pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wirearound the heater( black calrod heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now everythime the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over

Water in bottom of Roper Refrigerator/Freezer Unit

I have the same problem. I suspect the drain line for the auto defrost is clogged and so the water is dripping down into the fridge. (The water from the auto defrost cycle is supposed to drain into a pan under the fridge where it evaporates over a period of a few days). I have yet to locate the drain line though.
