I am also having an HDMI problem with my PS3, I have been using the system for about 4 months now since i bought it brand new, it has been hooked up to a Sharp Aquos 46" LCD HDTV the whole time and has had no problems until a few nights ago. I turned on my PS3, and the lights looked good on it and everything but it would not send a signal to my TV, I have tried the power buttons holding tricks in several ways, I have unplugged the unit and power cycled it, and nothing. When I use the regular RCA cables that it came with I have no problem at all, the tv picks it up but in Standard Definination, I really want to get my HDMI working again. also, not too long ago i put a 500gb hard drive into the PS3 so I really don't want to have to send it back to sony, and if I did have to would they have any problem with me just putting the old drive back in it? but anyways, that is not a worry right now, my worry is getting it to work like it did only a few days ago.
Try to reset the video signal: when you power on the ps3, gently press and hold on to it for a few seconds untill you hear a couple of quick bleeps. release your inger and you should now be able to reset you r ps3 to HDMI signal. Hope this works and makes sense. if that doesn't work then you and i are facing the same problem. Good luck

Check for an HDMI port
Check the back of your television for an HDMI port and refer to your owner's manual for your television's resolution. A resolution of 1080p offers the highest quality.
Most PS3 systems support 1.3 HDMI, but older systems may need a software update from the 1.1 or 1.2 version.
Disconnect all the cables and adapters from the back of your PS3, and then unplug your TV to reduce the risk of shock as you work.
Connect HDMI cable
Connect the HDMI cable. Reconnect the power cables on both the TV and the PS3 system.
Hold power button
Hold down the power button until the PS3 beeps and continue holding it for an additional five seconds until the system makes a second beep.
The Playstation 3 should detect the high definition cable and automatically adjust the settings to give you the best picture and sound possible.
Test the connection
Test the connection. If the HDMI cable isn't working, turn everything off and reconnect the original cables to manually change the settings.
Adjust the settings
Turn the system back on, select Settings, Display Settings, Video Output Settings, and then HDMI. Repeat the process for your Audio Settings. You can now experience your games with the highest video and audio quality available.
Ur tv some how causes HDMI 1 and 2 port hubs link together so changes back and fourth 1 or 2 HDMI hubs will not a difference.Ur tv have 4 HDMI hub ports wright?Tries not to used HDMI hub ports as like HDMI ports like 1,2,3,4 to as in sequences.Tries used like 1 and 4,2 and 4,3 and 1 as skips sequences might work for ur tv.Tries to hook up the PS3 system as the old format hook up same hook as PS2 format like used the PS station old RCA AV cable hook up.Then that should not causes conflict at all because now tv have two difference kind of format hook up.
Shelley, the fix for this is simple! Hold down the power button for about 5 seconds and the system will beep. This resets the video setting for your ps3 from HD too whatever the current cables are that you are using too hook up too the tv. This works on my PS3 which I just bought about 3 months ago and should work with the older ones.
I have the PS3 and this TV and it works....Try this.
1. Turn ON TV
2. Connect HDMI from TV to PS3
3. Select the correct HDMI input on the TV for the PS3(important)
4.Turn OFF PS3 if it is ON.
5. hold [I/O] Power button on PS3
6. Wait about 5 second and you should get the "HDMI Detected" or some similar message.
7. Configure the HDMI output for the PS3
Also, If you set the PS3 to "auto" for hdmi, it may set the resolution to 1080i. You may want to deselect everthing but the 1080P.
You have to set up your PS3 to use the HDMI connection. what you need to do is hook up both the component and HDMI to your tv and turn your PS3 on, the you have to go to "Settings" and find the video output settings (Sorry, i don't have the PS3 on so I can't check out exactly where to go) and select HDMI.
Your screen will go black and you have to switch over to the HDMI on your tv and select ok on your PS3
Well, I won't take the credit of others. Many people have the same problem as you do.
