It sounds like the encoder strip for the carriage assembly. It is best installed in a repair shop as the printer covers all need to be removed for access. The part is only available to repair shops as well.

Plastic strip inside printer

The only plastic strip that is user serviced is the protective strip for the ink cartridge. It comes with all new cartridges, or new printers. You are supposed to pull this strip out for proper cartridge operation (printer will not work with the strip still attached). When you pull it out, be very careful that it doesnt whip and touch your clothing. The plastic strip will be wet with ink, and if it touches your clothing, it will positively NOT come out.

A plastic strip came off the printer

The plastic strip (transparent strip) could be the encoder strip. The encoder strip is responsible for the proper positioning/movement of the ink cartridge carrier along the carrier assembly. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.

My printer is canon mp198 while i trying to fix my ink cartridge, accidentally i pulled out a plastic strip that was located behind the ink placement cartridge. and now the ink cartridge moves very fast...

You have most probably snapped the end of the encoder strip (the pastic strip) as it is spring tensioned. Look at both ends and there is a square cut into it. one of then will be broken and only a new strip will fix it. You should be able to buy a new one from any canon supplier. i cant give you a part number as not a uk model. Oh by the way there is a right and wrong way around so look at the old one before removing it.

I can't print my documents. My Printers model is Canon IP2700 and it says there that the error code is 5100. How can I fix the problem? we need the print immediately. Is there any solution we can fix it?

Usually, error code 5100 means some kind of obstruction in the print path, maybe something that had fallen inside the printer, the gears being jammed by something that got loose inside the printer, or ink on the clear plastic encoder/timing strip (a plastic strip about 1/4" in width that you can see running from side to side and connects to the print head).

Clean the plastic strip with alcohol , check if there is nothing blocking the head carriage set (sometimes kids play and hide toys, pens, coins, inside printers, VCRs or any other devices that have "doors"...).

Hope this info may help you!

Black cartridge will not go in easy. Found plastic loop hanging down on left side.

You have to pull the plastic loop out. it's a seal. The circle loop is attached to a plastic strip. if the loop is broken look for the plastic strip and pull it out if you can't you will need another cartridge.

Epson stylus pro 10000. I have an error 000100004 on it! any help would be greatly appreciated!

This error is for the CR motor encoder. This is normally a service call item, but you can often clean it or replace it yourself if you are mechanical. You'll have to remove the metal cover on the top front of the printer to expose it. You'll see a transparent gray plastic strip running the length of the printer and through a small sensor on the top of the print carriage assembly. If you look closely, this is actually a tiny ruler with little black lines on it. The printer actually counts these as the printhead goes back and forth to determine it's position. Carefully clean any dust off of this plastic strip, and blow out the sensor. Also thoroughly check for any damage to the plastic strip. If you don't see any damage to the strip and cleaning doesn't help, you'll probably need to replace the CR encoder itself. Hope this helps.

Canon printer error code 5100 while attempting to put in the color and photo cartridges. pix ip6220d is the printer model number

5100 is a carriage error, check the timing strip for contamination(plastic strip about 1/4" in width) The unit is not homing, check for obstructions.

Hi My problem is that this plastic strip has come off of something and now the ink cartridges go back and forth really hard but doesn't print anything. There are little slits on each end of the strip. One...

Hi Debbie,

If the plastic strip is about 10mm (or ~0.4 inches) and about the with of the printer, and if you look very closely the strip is striped (with tiny very think vertical lines).. .that strip is the locator strip… The ink cartridges read that strip to know where the carriage is (ie the carriage reads/counts the strips and then it knows where it is)

Hence if the stripe is now in your possession the printer doesn’t know where the cartridges are and just keeps moving them back and fro hoping to “find them”.. sadly without that stripe you printer will work no more L

Carrier Jam

This is what my printer did when it kicked of the 14" plastic strip inside the printer(see posts referring to strip). Look inside for a loose, quarter inch wide and 14" long plastic strip with slots on the end. Let me know if you solve this.

Loose Parts??

Sounds like the Encoder Strip, but without the Brand Printer and model number, I cant be 100% sure.
If it is the encoder strip, this is what the printer uses to tell where the carrriage is located at. Without it, the printer won't work.
You can try to repair but it will take a little time. 1st make sure that the encoder strip isn't torn at either ends where the spring goes in.
The encoder strip goes from 1 end to the other end, and it also goes through a small opening in the back of the carriage unit.
If you have a make and model, I could be a little more specific.

Good luck.
