- it is an internal HD i have - I had the same problem with my Seagate drive...all i did was go into control panel>user accounts> turn off account control, which let me see my seagate drive like normal. However i cannot get my WD drive to do the same thing. I can see it in device manager, but cannot access it

try to check the connection if it is properly installed or lost contact. Then try to restart your PC.
