It may have been overcharged too many times or let go totally flat. You may need a new battery pack - sometimes "Batteries+Bulbs" can rebuild the packs.

I have a problem with a yaesu ft470. When I turn it on it stays for 3 sec. then shuts off. The battery says they are fully charged.

Hi Fred,

What type of battery are you using?

Is it Nicad or Li-ion?

There are batteries and there are batteries, some good some bad.

If you're using Nicad battery, then that is likely to be the culprit.
Nicad types have a memory issue, where if you re-charge before the battery goes completely flat, they will only recharge from the point of the previous charge, that in simple terms means, not fully.

and the more you charge them without being fully drained, the more memory they keep, and the less of a charge they get.

The bast batteries I can recommend are Li-ion or Lithium batteries, these are designed for equipment with high power use as in radios, Laptops and of course the cell phone, to mention a few.

These do not have memory issues and last longer than most and are available as rechargeable, sure they cost a little more, but what price for quality.

I hope that this is the issue you are having, and that I have helped you.

I bought a new battery (FNB-RG-67LI) that arrived with 7.6 volts. I installed to the radio and conected to the ac outlet. After 12 hours charging is in 7.6 volts. my radio is the yeasu FT 60 with the...

That is about the nominal full-charge voltage on that battery pack. If the radio works, use it, let the battery run mostly down and recharge it. The FT-60 is a great radio, and mine shows between 7.4 and 7.8V with a fully charged battery, so yours is probably OK.

My dyson handheld charges fully, but keeps cutting out when using. About 7 seconds is the longest continual usage time

Your battery is losing voltage too quick. It has probably developed a 'memory'. Dyson claims that their handheld has the best suction out of all the handhelds out there. In order to maintain that claim the circuit board will shut off power to the motor when the voltage drops below adequate charge for full suction.
We need someone who can teach us to bypass that part of the circuit so it won't cut power to the motor or you need to replace the battery.
Shorting the battery like an Aircraft battery then re-charging won't fix it.

I have a 1996 VW Passat Estate 1.9TD the battery goes flat after a day or 2 running. With a fully charged battery in it it shows 12.5volts when ticking over.when a go to start the carthe dash lighs come on...

A fully charged battery should read approx 12.6 volts. When you check the voltage of a running vehicle, it should read approx 14.5 volts or so. If it doesn't, you are not going to charge. You are most likely driving around with a junk alternator, and if it has a bad regulator, it will discharge your battery. Most auto shops will test alternators for free!

No battery status Garmin 760

Went to Best Buy and they didn't know how to get the bar up either but said that the unit should be charged in 3 to 4 hours. So, when i unplugged the unit from the wall...the battery status showed up. I guess it doesn't show when the unit is plugged into the AC charger. Now, all is well.

Palm Charging

Synchronize your E2, then work on draining the battery all the way down in order to reduce the effect of battery memory. Memory happens when we repeatedly partially charge a battery. Over time the battery will forget how to keep a full charge, but will remember how to be partially charged. That's usually when users realize there's a problem. The first step is to drain the battery and FULLY charge it at least fully on the battery's indicator, but if you can, let it sit for 24hrs. The second step is to try to use the battery more before charging it and let it charge fully (ie-overnight) before using it when you need to charge it.

Good luck and let me know how you make out.

Charging new phone

it wont harm your phone they just recomend 24 hours to make sure the bat is ok and that it gets fully charged but remember to let your bat go totally flat from time to time this will prolong the life of your battery as it does them no good just keep topping it up so i sugest to let it go totally flat say once a month this will keep your battery lasting longer between charge hope this helps
