Question about Electronics - Others

My yamaha rx v396 doesn't switch on. When I switch it on with the remote or at the amp itself, a click is heard within as if a relay is functioning, but the system does not power up.

Want to know if it is possible to hear a record player through the AUX plug out? since my Yamaha RX-V396 receiver doesn't have a phono plug out

Only you can hear the record player through the aux of your amp if the record player comes with built in phono preamp. If not you need a phono preamp between the record player and amp or an amp which have a phono input. Phono preamp is available in the open market.

Hi, Rx-v559 power button doesnt power up amp. +5v stb is active... whats the most likely problem?

If the power relay clicks. It may need the main power transformer. Primary of the transformer should be almost a short, if it is open-it's bad.
If no relay click. It could be main micro, stand by relay or the transistor that switches the relay on.

'clicking' off a few seconds after turned on

Does the receiver work OK?
These are probably electromechanical switches (called relays) which yamaha uses a lot. They use electricity to connect/disconnect something by magnetic force and this causes the "clicks". It is used for example to connect the speakers to the output of apmlifier only after it has finished initializing to protect both the amp and the speakers.
When I turn on my RX-V465 I hear at least one click, it is probably connecting power to the amp. When turning it on with Radio button on remote I hear 3 clicks over 2-3 seconds.
So these clicks are normal and nothing to worry about. They occur also when you switch to the PURE DIRECT mode.

As long as you can connect the audio to the RX, no need for another amplifier.

Yamaha rx v396

See page 9 for self test diagnostics. During power up there are checks primarily for the power supplies. If the conditions are not within specifications it will shut down, the second click to protect itself.

Power resistors in the power supplies perform as fuses and are known to fail.(they operate near there limits and from stress thermal cycles fail) These resistors need to be replaced with identical parts as they are part of the safety features of the amplifier.

Failed solder connection the result of thermal cycling are another common defect and are easily repaired.

Complete service manual in the link. If you are not technical provide the manual with the unit to a qualified technician for repair.

Hope this helps?

There is no sampling rate associated with this receiver. Perhaps you are asking the wrong question. What exactly are you trying to know? Sampling rates are usually associated with CD or DVD players.
