Question about Toshiba 44NHM84 44" TV

1 Answer

I have a 44 inch 44nhm84 DLP. When the TV is turned on, it makes a loud humming noise that goes down in intesity twice and then finally a lesser humming noise after the picture comes on. At first I thought it would be the fan but some say it could be a color wheel? I am not familiar with the construction of a DLP HDTV. Can anyone help me troubleshoot? The noise seems to be coming from the rear right while viewing the TV from the front. Right near the bulb.

This does sound like a color wheel. To my knowlege, Toshiba does not sell the Color Wheel seporately. In short, you have to replace the Opical Block. The cost of this is very exspensive and Toshiba may not sell it to you. You may have to go through a Toshiba Service facility to obtain it. Check prices of new LCD sets before investing the money.
Hope this helps,

Why does my magnavox 52 inch dlp make a fairly loud humming noise for 10 minutes or so after turning the tV on? It gradually get quieter.

It is likely a bad fan that gets quiter as it warms up from use. There are two fans on that TV - one under the bulb housing and one at the left vent hole. They are special fans with three leads - +, - and an RPM indicator (yellow lead typically).

I have a Toshiba DLP Projection TV model # 44N HM84 made in October 2004. When we turn it on the green light blinks about sis or seven times then turns red. The TV doesn't come on. Any ideas? thanks in...

It is an error code. Count the flashes and then re-post asking what the amount of flashes means and how to repair it. Make sure you post make and model of TV.

How to replace Power Supply in Toshiba 44NHM84 44" TV

Since this is a DLP type set, there is a lamp and ballast involved. When the set shuts down, are there any indicator lights on the front? If so, check the owner's manual for an explanation of their meaning. Typically, the lamp can cause this or the ballast. If either of those are the problem, usually the lights on the front panel will indicate it.

Keep us posted.

Shadow down right side of screen on a toshiba 44NHM84 44" DLP television

shadows at the bottom of the screen sound like moisture that was "wicked up" between the screen layers and dryed out leaving a stain. DO NOT get these screens wet, use nothing but a damp soft cloth; just a few drops of water running down the screen can cause a fairly large stain. Some people have suggested that they may be professionally cleaned, but the risk of damage is too great on the user level.
