Download the file above > unplug your scanner > install the file above > reboot your computer (if needed) > login into your account > plug the scanner into your usb port > it should automatically detect your scanner > goto device manager > imaging device > right click HP Scan Jet .... > Click on Driver Tab > Click on Roll Back Driver > choose to run the driver on windows xp compatibility mode.
Or use the compatibility wizard to set scanjet pro to run on windows xp compatibility mode
advises that, on some systems, the scanner hardware may get into an
error state that will keep the scanning software from finding the 3200c
ScanJet. If your scanner still isn't found after installing this driver
and software update, please follow the directions below:
Unplug the power cable from the 3200c ScanJet.
Unplug the parallel cable(s) from the 3200c ScanJet.
Shut down the PC and wait for ten seconds.
Plug in the power cable to the 3200c ScanJet.
Plug in the parallel cable(s) to the 3200c ScanJet.
Power your PC on.
If you still have the problem, uninstall the driver from device manager, and download and run this .exe file version of the driver instead.. and if necessary, repeat the above steps..
This might be a hardware problem, but it could also be caused by an outdated (or corrupted) driver; you could uninstall the original driver, then download and install the newest version directly from HP here:
If that link is broken, or doesn't work for you, use this one:
Also, I've copied the following information directly from the HP 4850 Scanjet user's manual: If you have the HP Image Zone software installed, you can use the onscreen Help to solve other problems with the scanner. To gain access to the Help, open HP Solution Center, click Help, and then click HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner Help. The Help system provides information about the HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner hardware as well as information about the HP Image Zone and HP Scanning software itself. Also, see Scan troubleshooting in the general Troubleshooting and support section of the Help.
Good luck with this; let us know what you learn...
