Yes it could be the belt if it is slipping it will smell with a little bit rubber burning. u can check the pulley on the motor to make sure it is not loose.

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

Kenmore 22622 washer tub will not spin during spin cycle, burnt smell

Sounds like the belt between the motor and the tub is slipping or the tensioner spring may have failed.

Washing machine has smell (burning) and doesnt spin or drain tub.

Sounds like the belt may need to be changed. it eh pulley are spinning but the belt is not, nothing will spin and the friction of the pulley against the belt will cause a burning rubber smell

When washer is spinning it smells like something is burning

A burning smell means you have some slipping of the drive belt. I think your belt needs to be replaced. Another reason may be a binding in the tub. possibly a seized tub bearing. The only way to know is to take off the access cover at the back of the washer and visually inspect it first. you can spin the tub by hand from the back and this will give you an idea of what is binding.

Washer does not spin, has a burning smell. took off front panel. motor pulley feels hot, so does belt. replaced belt 6/09. only wash one load per week. where is the burning smell coming from?

This sounds like a frigidaire washer. If it is, the belt must be the original equipment manufacturers belt. ANY other belt will just slip and burn. The fact that the pulley and the belt were both hot tells me that either the belt is the issue or your main tub bearing is starting to seize.

The washer will go into final spin, it seems to be

Well there could be few things causing the smell and the tub not turning. Its possible something is restricting the tub from turning and the motor is over heating. It is also possible that the transmission has a broken gear and you are smelling something from it getting hot inside. Or you could have a bad belt or coupling. Also the water pump could be stopped up. Its hard to tell because there are so many different types of washers and Im not sure which one you have I assume it is a whirlpool late model.

Won't spin on spin cycle, smells of something burning.

sounds like the belt or the tub bearings are shot. It is likely that the motor is spinning and the tub is not, causing the belt to burn.
