Question about Apple iPhone 5
I plug my phone up and the apple sign shows up for a few seconds, then turns off. I've tried holding down the lock and home button but did not work. Please help im so frustrated.
Holding the home and lock button at the same time reboots the phone. Press and hold the power button for about 2 seconds, the apple logo should come on then may go dark. Depending on how much data you have on your phone it could take a few minutes to boot up, just like your computer would.

I had this exact problem too - same as the first two posts anyway.
It seems to be just a software issue and was easily resolved for me with a full power off and reboot. Here is how to do that safely.
Plug in the phone using the wall socket charger, leave it for a few hours to get a charge (i know it doesn't look like its charging). Later, press the on/off button. The battery icon appears with just a thin red line. Let it go back to black. Then press the the on/off button and the menu button simultaneously for about 8 seconds. A red button should appear on the screen with a question asking if you want to power off the phone. Say yes. (I think it was a slide bar, but can't remember now.) Wait a few secs while the phone powers off. Then remove the power plug from the phone. Now reinsert the power plug. After a few (worrying) seconds of nothing, a white Apple logo appears in the middle of the screen, a few more seconds and the iphone main menu appears. No data has been lost, no settings are altered, and best of all, the battery shows a full charge and seems to be back to normal again.

this is probably a internal mal-function probably caused by faulty wiring as long you didnt caue the problem by droping it you should have no probs returning it to the i store for a free replacement... its what i did with my 5th gen ipod classic when it acted all weired

Try each of the following resets:
Download the latest iTunes to your computer and reset the iPhone. Then re-sync it.
To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond
1. Remove Sim Card
2. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until Apple logo appears
3. Replace Sim Card
4. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until normal phone screen appears.
Also, Try this:
1.) Shut down the iPhone 3G.
2.) Start up iTunes
3.) Hold down HOME button on the iPhone 3G
4.) While keeping the HOME button depressed, plug in the Sync cable
5.) A message will pop up to ask if you want to reset.
6.) Just click YES and the reset process should start.

Apps from non-Apple places typically don't go over well. You'll need to do a back up and restore (as new) with iTunes. AT&T has released official MMS as of 09/25, please use it and be sure you have the latest 3.1 software (it will download automatically in back up and restore). Always be cautious with 3rd party app stores, half my calls every day are about sites that crashed people's iPhones.

If you have tried doing a master reset on the phone, it sounds as if you are having a hardware problem with the phone, such as some sort of damage that might have come from a drop or something. By the way I can fix the iphone glass screens, and digitizers.
