Question about HP Compaq nc6400 (GJ982US) PC Notebook
It sounds like it will start booting, but only the black screen appears. Is it stuck on hibernating? I removed the battery and reinstalled it....don't know what else to do. I am basically computer illiterate, Please help!
Sometimes when the laptop become overheated it lock the start up
leave it to cool for 2-3 hours and u can put it near to aircondition
it is like protection for the motherboard.

I just had this same thing happen to a friends laptop. I removed the Battery, shut the laptop off, did not install the battery, started the computer on AC power only, without the battery installed. Then the laptop started correctly. Than I was able to go into the control panel, click on "power options", and made sure that the screen settings were set for no hibernation, no screen shut off, no standby. with laptops, it is best to either turn it off if you are not going to use it for a long period anyway. The reason for this is that laptops run hotter than regular desktops, and need to stay as cool as possible. Another setting that is very useful is to set the screen saver on. That way if you leave the laptop for a little while, all you have to do is move the mouse or tap the touchpad, and the screen will come back on.
