Not sure if you could read the text in the last pic, having to mess with the photo size to upload to here for you to see...

  • penot Apr 14, 2014

    ok

did you try to search for your driver ? did you visit philips web site ?

it seems you only have to extract the driver files on a floppy and/or usb key, and you should be good to go ! usually a .sys and .inf at least should be present at the root of the floppy/usb key (not inside a folder ; unless win7 lets you deal with that)

give it a try please ; sometimes the problem is worse because it occurs with hard drive drivers, but solution is the same ;-)

if you CANNOT succeed, then borrow another CD drive, internal (SATA, IDE) or USB external to proceed with setup only, then put your philips back...

then the last solution would be to copy the Win7 DVD on hard drive to launch setup, but that's more tricky !

    good luck

Yes, I did try searching for the driver, on the Philips site as well, which is why I posted that I need a driver cause I couldn't find one... I have tried swapping the CD drives with another one, Pioneer, I had the same issue about needing drivers for that one... I was able to find drivers for the pioneer drive but only in a self-extracting format, so i tried putting that on cd and a thumb drive and windows still didn't "see" the driver... as for your last bit of advice about copying the windows to hard drive to launch set up, I don't know how I would go about doing that, sorry...

  • penot Apr 14, 2014

    ok I see...

  • penot Apr 14, 2014

what do you call a "self-extracting...." I quote : "usually a .sys and .inf at least should be present at the root of the floppy/usb key (not inside a folder ; unless win7 lets you deal with that)"

  • penot Apr 14, 2014

but now the prob is all different because finally the pioneer also doesn't work, right !?

  • penot Apr 14, 2014

what type of CD, DVD drives are you using !? Sata, IDE ?

  • penot Apr 14, 2014

what kind of operating system did you have previously ? why do you re-install ? did you change anything in your hardware ? did you check if your motherboard comes with chipset drivers that must be loaded by windows setup ?

    Robert Granado Apr 14, 2014

re: self extracting, I don't know what the .sys and .inf stuff means, the driver I found was like a zipped file, I couldn't just open it to save the driver only, if there is a way to do that, I don't know it... moving on to your other questions... all the drives, hard, cd, etc are SATA.... I had windows 7 previously, I didn't change anything to the hardware, I leave my pc on all the time, one morning I woke and it was turned off, when I turned it back on, after it was done booting up and I saw my desktop, when I tried opening anything it restarted itself... I was able to open it in safe mode with networking, and it wouldn't restart until I tried opening a browser again... So since it had been over a year since I had it installed I figured I'd just try reinstalling windows. (oh, prior to this, I did the memory ram checks, and also there was no beeping, like when the cmos battery is low)

I just got back from a pc store with a plug-and-play sata cd rom drive and it is still giving me the driver error... I appreciate your help in this matter, I am supposed to see my friend next monday (the one that set it up for me) so I'll just let him have fun troubleshooting this... again, I appreciate your help, I'm sorry I couldn't be more technically versed, I'm not to savvy on this...

Hi, The DVD/CD Rom Icon has dissapeared on My Computer. When I go to control panel - device manager and click on the dvd/cd rom drive icon I get the following message in the genaral...

You will need to re-install the driver. Right click the device in device manager and select properties. Navigate to the driver section and uninstall all existing drivers. (It may *not* give you the option to do that, depending on how corrupted the driver is, but it should.)
Reboot the PC.
Upon reboot, Windows should find the new device and install generic drivers. It will probably ask you to reboot a second time.

I need solution for this problem immediately I installed windows 7 in my PC. after that in My PC DVD RW is not working.

Was the Windows 7 installed from a clean slate or you upgraded from Vista to Windows 7? If you have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, then this is definitely a driver problem. You can try to update the driver by going to Device Manager, check if the DVD drive is listed. Pull down the drop down list, and right click on the devices listed under DVD/CD-ROM Drives and choose Update Driver Software.
If the DVD drive came with a software bundle (e.g. Nero Burning Application) Try reinstalling these application under Windows 7 Environment.

Hi I'm Rain ,
Ok follow these instructions to reboot your CD Rom drive.

  1. click start then My Computer .
  2. In My Computer right click the DVD/CD rom drive icon .
  3. In the list , Click eject to see if the drive is being reconized .
  4. If nothing happens repeat steps 1-2
Now when you get to sep 3 you will click properties .

5. In properties click Hardware .

6. In Hardware click the DVD/CD device to highlight it .

7. Click properties .

Now look to the bottom of that window to see device status .
If it says , this device is working properly .Properties .
Next click Driver . In driver you will see a list of option tabs that allows you to , Roll Back driver Update driver and Disable driver .
The other option is Driver Details.

Click Roll Back driver to restore the driver back to the state before you added the latest program . Click ok and follow the screen instructions.
If this fails , you can follow these steps to get back to Driver and chose
Disable Driver . Click ok if another window pops up.
Now what you are doing is rebooting the DVD/CD rom drive.
This will restart all the drivers that are associated with the DVD/CD rom
device .
Now follow all the steps again to get back to Driver .
Now in Driver you will need to click Enable to restart the DVD/CD rom
device . Reboot your system and try the DVD/ CD tray to see if it responds . If it still fails to respond you most likely will need to replace or service the DVD/CD Rom Hardware { the Tray } .

Hey guys im having problems with my sony dvd drive. I recently installed windows 7 due to my vista completely turning to ****. I understand that the OS is still new and there is a lot that needs to be...

You may try with these troubleshooting steps.

These steps are applicable for either Windows XP or Vista OS. But you can perform the same in the Windows 7 OS.

Option 1: Try installing Sony Registry Update for CD/DVD Drives:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNNR180E&upd_id=2031&os_id=28

Option 2: Try deleting UpperFilters and LowerFilters Registry values as mentioned:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314060&SD=SONY

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C299114

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C501168

The exact solution is delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters Registry values and then restart the Computer.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DVD/CD-ROM PROBLEM

The yellow exclamation mark means that the driver for the DVD/CD-ROM is corrupted. You will need to find the drivers for your drive and re-install it. This should be easy enough to do: find the brand name of your drive and go to the website of the manufacturer, then locate their drivers page and find the specific driver for your product, then download and install the driver and restart your computer and the drive should work.
Please rate if this works for you, Thanks!

Toshiba DVD ROM SD M1302 driver

If you are using Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, NT or XP, and have an ATAPI/IDE CD/DVD drive, there is no driver needed (see Toshiba statement I have posted below). Under no circumstances, if DVD is properly installed and functional, will you need ANY driver!

If your DVD drive is a SCSI drive, then it may need drivers specific to the SCSI card you have installed (see the specs/manual or website for your card). You may also need the Adaptec SCSI setup, available at this address:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/suppbyproduct.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=%2FTechnology%2FSCSI+Software&fromPage=driverindex

or use this address if you have a LOGIC based SCSI card or device:

http://www.lsilogic.com/

Now, if you meet the criteria for the first paragraph I wrote, and your PC does not load the driver automatically (after a reboot or two) then you have a PHYSICAL or HARDWARE problem. Either the DVD drive is improperly cabled, improperly installed or defective.

Those are all your options. See below, from Toshiba website
good luck

ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

Toshiba's CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives do not require any unique device drivers for Windows '95/'98/2000/XP/NT.
After installing your drive and re-booting, your system should recognize your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Win '95/'98/2000/XP/NT Operating Systems support all Toshiba ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives natively.

DOS/Windows 3.x Device Drivers

This device driver is to be used with DOS/Windows 3.x operating systems. Do not use this driver with Windows '95, Windows '98, XP or Windows 2000 unless you are going to use your system in the REAL or MS-DOS Modes. Device drivers for Windows '95, Windows '98, Windows 2000, XP, OS/2, and NT operating systems are provided with the installation or setup software of each operating system.

DOS ATAPI Interface Driver
If you prefer using DOS click the link below to download a MS-DOS ATAPI interface driver.
atapi.exe

SCSI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

SCSI interface drivers are written for the SCSI card you are using in your system, by the SCSI card manufacturer. They are not specific to your Toshiba drive and are not provided by Toshiba. If during installation Windows can not find the correct SCSI software driver for your SCSI card and you do not have the software driver that came with your SCSI card, contact your SCSI host adapter manufacturer.
