What makes you think you need an antenna with 20 dB of gain to get 300m with 2.4GHz?
If that's an RP-SMA connector on the card, try an (8 dBi) RE09P-RSP from l-com.com (about $40).

How can i boost my wi-fi

You can buy a 'repeater'. A repeater is a net device that can pick up your wifi signal from one wifi, and using another channel (your computer or other device can automatically change channels) it will also send the same connection without wires. Basically, these are like cell towers in that you can move from one to another seamlessly, if they're built to do so. Some cheaper models will require you to chose the one you want.

The other option is to use the etherport, and run another wireless router by pulling a cable to the part of the house or buisness where you need the signal.

Now, that's the easiest way. However, if your wifi uses an antenna, sometimes, if you can find one, you can get a better antenna, something that is directional, or partly directional, this can at times double or triple your distance. However, unless the antenna has an amplifier, it will merely have the same signal, it will just confine the directions it travels, and this boosts the signal. Most normal antennas transmit 360°, but you can get them with any angle spread, and it will help, even down to 15°, which is a very narrow but strong signal. Add an amplifier, and you increase the output signal.

Hope this helps.

How can I increase my WIFI range. My internet signal is very weak when I am in my bedroom. Can I increase my range by possibly buying a signal extender.

Try moving the wireless router around and or higher.
If the wireless router is in a different room and the room has concrete walls of foils insulation in the walls, this will weaken the wireless signal. AND/OR
You can connect add a antenna to your computer. Have a look at this device. Normal 0 USB High Gain Antennas www.pricewatch.com/gallery/networking/high_gain_antenna

I lose the signal from my 2300 if I move past 30 feet away from it. What can I do to increase the signal distance?

Things that will affect the range on a Wireless router signal are signal strength, and a big factor to this is the antenna you use. The small antenna that comes with the router normally offers around "Up to 100m" indoors and "Up to 450m" outdoors (open range) range, router to computer, and replacing this antenna with a higher gain directional antenna pointed towards your laptop would normally be a way to improve this signal. Router login involves using web browser and going to http://192.168.2.1 and login is admin as well as the password of admin ... unless you have changed it! At any rate, if all antennas are correctly attached the router to computer distance would not be a problem. Check antenna connection, replace if all secure and still have low signal strength. Please let me know the outcome of the repair efforts? Thank you.

Very short range

No this is not typical if the Network card and router are just one room away. However electrical interference and walls do impede the signal.

Try moving the Router around to see if the signal improves.
You can also adjust the antenna and pointing it in the direction of the Router.
1. Position your wireless router (or wireless access point) in a central location.
2. Move the router off the floor and away from walls and metal objects. (Such as Metal file cabinets)
3. Replace your router's antenna.
Antennas supplied with your router are designed to be omni-directional, meaning they broadcast in all directions around the router. Upgrade to a hi-gain antenna that focuses the wireless signals only one direction. You can aim the signal in the direction you need most.
4. You can add wireless repeaters. (just the room next door this would be a last resort if all else fails)
5. Change your wireless channel. You may find one that will transmit a stronger signal.
6. Reduce wireless interference
If you have cordless phones or other wireless electronics in your home, your computer might not be able to "hear" your router over the noise from the other devices.. To quite the noise, avoid wireless electronics that use the 2.4 GHz frequency. Instead, look for cordless phones that use the 5.8 Ghz or 900 MHz frequencies.
7. Update your firmware or your network adapter driver

Nice diagrams on this web page too.
(Couple items left off as these did not seem to fit your current situation)

Good luck!

The wireless lan on hp pavilion media center pc is getting a low signal one bar out of five. How do I determine if its the antenna or the 802.11 card that is faulty?

move either the router or the pc around. If this is a personal wireless you can buy or make antenna extenders to increase the range. You can also try a different firmware like dd-wrt which allows for greater control of the wireless.

Low signal

The only way to boost the signal is to upgrade the internal wireless card to a card with more range. Research the various Broadcom and Intel wireless cards and find one that meets the range you need. Most of the cards are interchangeable, so even though it may not have been offered for your machine, it will work, with the proper drivers.

Low signal so cant get internet 52 mbs adapter

you can increase the RX-TX power of your router. Some routers come with option that you can increase the range of them not. However Open source solutions are doing well like www.dd-wrt.com depends on your router it can cascade the the range many times. Alternate solution is to get 2X - 4X Range WiFi adaptors that can be extended by booster antennas. Good Luck
