Hold the power button down until the unit shuts off, wait 10 seconds then turn it on again.

Upon restarting, make sure to choose Start Normally if the startup failure menu comes up.

Try this, unplug the laptop, remove the battery. Hold the power button down for at least 30 seconds.

Then reconnect it to power, leave the battery out, and try powering it on.

Try a different mouse, that would prove where the problem lies. Looks to me like the mouse is failing.

Testimonial: "Thanks! Yes, I've noticed that the mouse is getting weird, in that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Also, are there viruses you can get that can mess up your mouse, or your ability to use it?"

SOURCE: How do I re boot

If the screen on your TOSHIBA fails to come on or goes black, it can cause quite a panic, since the monitor is one of the most expensive components. Some A215 models, however, have a problem with the basic input/output system (BIOS) -- a chip on the motherboard that controls the computer hardware -- that causes the PC to freeze and the screen to go blank. To fix a black screen on the TOSHIBA Satellite, perform some basic troubleshooting steps in Windows Vista, then upgrade the BIOS if the steps fail to fix the problem.

1.Press any key on the keyboard to wake the computer. If the computer does not respond, hold down "Fn" and "F1" to check if the instant password feature is enabled. If a prompt appears, input the administrator's password and press "Enter."
2.Hold down "Fn" and tap the "F7" key to increase screen brightness if no prompt appears.
3.Hold down "Fn" and press "F5" to swap displays if the computer is hooked up to an external monitor. The TOSHIBA has several options to cycle through, so it might take several tries to find the correct setting.
4.Hold down the power button for 10 to 15 seconds to turn off the TOSHIBA. Remove the AC adapter from the power jack.
5.Close the lid and turn the TOSHIBA onto its face. Release the battery lock and slide the accompanying tab to eject the battery from its compartment.
6.Touch a bare metal surface to keep the battery safe from electrostatic discharge (ESD), then pull the battery out of its compartment.
7.Leave the battery out of its bay for 15 minutes. Return the battery to its compartment and lock it in place.
8.Turn the notebook over, open the lid, plug in the AC adapter and press the power button to turn on.
9.Log in to the computer as an administrator, open a browser and go to TOSHIBA Support. Select the A215-S7422 from the "Product Support" link.
10.Click "Downloads." Select your operating system, then click "BIOS." Click the BIOS link, then click "Download Now." Save the file to the desktop.
11Double-click the EXE file and follow the on-screen instructions to auto-update the BIOS. The computer will automatically restart when the update is complete.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

Black screen even on ext monitor

External monitor confirmation means that you're not getting anything out. If there truly are not words coming up, telling you what's up, then you're probably looking at a bad logic board. It could be bad video, but if nothing, not even a fan, is spinning up, then you're not getting power across the system. Check all your power connections and inputs, but I'm leaning towards a bad system board.

I connect my Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983 to my Dynex flat screen tv and if so what cable do I need? Thanks

In order to connect your laptop to your tv's display you will need a VGA to component or composite cable. The VGA part is connected to your laptop on the left side next to the network jack and then the composite or component part to the corresponding inputs on your tv. Here's a site that sells them just to give you an idea of what you will need. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023503&p_id=2170&seq=1&format=2
You should be able to find a similar cable at your local electronics store.
