Question about Amana NTW4700YQ Top Load Washer NTW4700YQ
If the lid lock button was blinking, you should press the start button so that the lid lock goes off. The lid lock button will lock once the washer has filled up. It won't wash or drain until you "UNLOCK" it and the lid is actually down. If it doesn't work after you unlock it, then you need a technician to come out and fix it.
If the green cycle light is flashing on then off, this usually means the cycle is paused. The lid lock should unlock when in pause mode, if not you will need to press and hold the "Pause/Play" button to clear the cycle completely, if there is water in the unit, it will drain first, then unlock the lid and be on standby to start a new cycle. Open the control panel. Unplug the timer and then plug it back in good and firm.
If it does not work correctly after that,
Replace your timer.

Check and see if there is a cup in the top of the agitator. Some machines have you put it there, turning back and forth during wash doesn't bother it, but the spin to empty the wash water causes the softener to go out through slots in the top of the cup and be held in the agitator. when it stops the softener drains into the tub, ready for the rinse cycle.

SOURCE: amana clothes washer won't work
It could be the motor is broken, but it's more likely a blown relay. I'd visit the manufacturer's website and see if you can download a schematic or a wiring diagram for your make and model, then open it up (after unplugging it!) and you can check the connections with a voltage multimeter. (They sell them at hardware and auto-parts stores for $15-20 and they're the most useful tool for anything electronic. Every homeowner should have one.) Just put the red contact on one side of a circuit, the black one on the other, and see if you get current. Worst-case scenario, you need a whole new engine, but it seems more likely to me that the circuit board, the control knob or one of the little relays and fuses inside needs to be replaced. Your local appliance-repair shop should be able to describe the troubleshooting process in great detail and then sell you the parts, though for just a bit more they'll often come over and do it for you. (It's generally worthwhile to make friends with someone who works at such a place, so you can trade something you're good at for their help when stuff goes kablooey.)
