Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 PC Notebook
Use a volt meter and measure the output of you power adapter. It sounds like the cable is broken right about the end. The volt meter should read the same as is printed on the label on your ac adapter. If it reads correctly then the next thing to look for is the power plug in the laptop. Try to wiggle the center pin, if it moves very much at all then the connector may be broken. You can check with a local PC repair shop for a repair price for the jack replacement.
