Question about Panasonic MC-CG917 Canister Vacuum Cleaner

My panasonic canister vacuum agitator brush does not spin when on

While vacuuming a rug a loose thread got suctioned up and caused the agitator brush to stop spinning. The suction works fine. I opened up the casing and removed the thread/yarn that was wrapped around the brush roll, cleaned it and checked the belt which looked fine. I closed it up and turned on the vacuum but still no spin. The motor sounds fine. Please help!

Possible that you did not get the belt on properly and came off right away.

Your vacuum cleaner doesn't suck much?

You have emptied the dust canister for many times. You hear the motor running, but it doesn't pick up much. Your vacuum cleaner is still OK...
If the motor was not running at the beginning, I suggest you read some other Fixya troubleshooting tip.
Now it's just TIME to replace these filters.
They come in set of 2, a first one has a cylinder shape and a second one is flat.

I recommend as a good consumer, you to first order a new set, cause this cleaning process may be spread over few days. Unless you wish not vacuum for a while...
After replacing with the new one under the cannister, here is how you RECYCLE the old one.

Important Safety Rules First:
  1. This procedure should be done only outside of your home. Stay away from all clean surfaces as hanging bed sheets, rugs, clothing, and open windows : cause one wind drought may give you more work to do ;-( !
  2. Always wear a safety mask, for obvious reasons: since we don't know what's in there: breathing any dust is very hazardous to your health. Better be safe than... sorry :-(
  3. You should wear rubber gloves and old clothes. Why would you get your hands or your clothes dirty?
Brush out all you can off the cylinder and the flat filter with a cleanup brush or disposable rag.
Soak the used vacuum filters in a disposable container (yogurt or ice cream) ;-) filled with soapy water (1tb spoon dishsoap in 1/2 quart or liter of water). Soak for 10min. Rince once. Refill again with soapy water and let it soak overnight.
Rince it now with clear wather. Looking through it you shall see most of the dust should be gone.
Do not replace these wet filters the same day in your vacuum cleaner because it would obviously damage it's motor. Why do you have to hurry for?

Let it DRY in a warm place or in direct sun for another day! Store it until you are ready to replace it again.
Your have RECYCLED once more! You may do it as a few more times as long as it doesn't affect the performance of your vacuum cleaner.
This process could be applied to many more vacuum cleaners and some household items we normally throw away.

Check height adjuster first to make sure that it is still functional. If the brush is too low to rug, it can cause some skipping as you pull the vac. to you. Have you tried to vacuum at a different angle to see if skipping stops? If your height adjuster checks out okay, it could be that your rugs may need a good steam cleaning. I have two dogs, and after awhile, the oil residue from there dander collects in the rug which is unavoidable after a long period of time with regular vacuuming. The carpet starts to mat and that's when I experienced my vacuum cleaner starting to skip. After a good professional steam cleaning of the carpets were performed, the vacuum cleaner stopped skipping. Hope this was informational.

Why does my panasonic MCUG415 hose stop working after bag change?

The replacement bag may not be installed correctly or something in the suction path is being disturbed by the process (maybe a "bag full" detector). In an upright, there is a shutter that directs suction to the floor or the hose and it may be getting confused.

Why won't my Hoover Platinum turn on?

Check and see if there is a reset button for the vacuum head this trips sometime to protect the head motor. Also if the roller heads bind they can snap the belt if it is belt driven. If it is direct drive then I would look for the trip or reset button.

Honeywell 703 central vacuum seems very hot after using

David
I recently purchased the same unit and had the same issue. I have since received a replacement and realized where the problem was for me. when Honeywell packages the unit for shipment they place all the extra parts including the muffler inside the canister. If the box is inverted in the shipping process than all those items create pressure on the filter/bag that seals the dirt canister from the suction side of the motor. In my case the bag was damaged/torn from the items inside during shipment and I didn't realize it. The motor then sucks a lot of hair, dirt and debris into it's cooling blades causing extra load when it turns. In my case it was extreme enough excess load that it overheated the brushes and covered everything in black soot. So...if it runs hot i suggest you inspect the bag/filter for holes. best of luck ..it worked for me

My kenmore progressive upright has a loud vibration coming from the agitator brush. Not the belt side, but opposite. Very loud.

The bottom plate may be loose. This can be caused by wear of the mounting clamps or damage caused by an encounter with some indigestible object
