SOURCE: DVD player/ recorder problems... PLEASE HELP!!!

I have now had two Panasonic recorders 3 years apart and both have gone down with this same fault.

It's a shame as they are a fantastic recorder, I would have thought Panasonic would have put this right by now. It now 5 years on since I bought my first one and it sounds as if they still have the same fault.

Why the hell can't they just fit a standard computer dvd drive that’s cheap to replace, and not this abortion they fit.

I was looking on E-bay for Panasonic recorders that where faulty and found around twenty.

ALL WITH THE SAME FAULT

"DVD drive faulty"

I’m now looking for a new one but don’t know what to do as I have a ton of discs that need to be finalized, may just forget about them and keep clear of Panasonic in future.

Without seeing the actual unit, I would guess that the power supply has failed. These unit have what are called "switch mode" supplies that rely on circuits that oscillate. If a capacitor goes bad, the unit won't oscillate properly, thus no power. These are difficult to track, but are not usually expensive to repair. I would suggest a trip to a service center for a detailed repair estimate. Report the results here.

sometimes electronics can be damaged by lightning storms and some may just go out depending on the age, if you cannot find a electronics repair shop you can try purchasing the same model or newer model here>>>www.discountbargainprices.com

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

This error e26 gets thrown up on some digital rights management programs.this really just means you are not allowed to record...ever increasingly thanks to the big corps like sony drm carrier signals are put into some broadcasts to overcome copying infringements.there still is a way to do this with the right equipment.some tv channels get revenue from their advert counts so they put these signals in to ensure that you can only watch at broadcast or catchup on certain devices.what I can't figure out is I can record anything whilst it's being aired and still transfer to older equipment but not anything with latest ios and certainly not with sony recorders.

Toshiba RD-88DTKB won't switch on

Check the capacitor in the power supply board, if defective it will show a slight bulge at top, value should be around 1000uf give or take, if handy with soldering iron replace with same value and voltage rating.
