Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

IBM wheelwriter 10 series ii 6783-001

Losing power at power supply, no blown fuse, caps, ect.. fast to power, with DVM connected I get 36V/5V and a few seconds no volts, bench testing does same thing, replaced KA3842 with new, same problem, tested power switch and cord, np found, tested bridge diods - good,I've tested all I could and all seems to be good, ? Maybe switching transformer, cannot test it. Need schematic of power supply if one has a copy to share, Power Supply P/N 1434518. The power seems to be draining down like a capacitor would when DVM is hooked into it.

Testimonial: "Lexmark Power Supply P/N 1434518 EC NO. 533136 Date Code 2/7/93 S/N B521456 It was built for Lexmark by Samsung. Input: 100-240 50-60Hz 2.0A OutPut: +34V DC 1.15A - +5V DC 2.2A From my Findings, all these parts are "OBSOLETE" Switching Transformer. Part# SC-9224 cannot be found or an equivalent, The "TYNO58", "L4960" out of circuit test show to be good. Finding a "SHORT" like this on "SMPS" is very difficult with out an schematic, to many parts to remove. Thanks for replying"

Open the upper cover, remove the platen (roller) there is a latct on each side that has to be pressed down, after the platen is out thetre are two latches one on each dide just inside the the sides of the case pull them to the front, flip the margins inside and lift the case, give the motor a little push, if it starts get a can of WD40 and spray everything inside the T/W that moves.

Your print solenoid probably has a broken cap. There are some companies that sell the "kit" with instructions on how to replace the cap.

Could be many things. Take off the case and look for parer clips, staples or other debris on or under the PC board or in the power supply.
