SOURCE: I have Dyson animla and the wand stop working....no bloc anywhere

The hose is getting twisted on the machine and that makes it difficult to pull it out.
1) Pull the wand out as far as you can - if you can pull it out completely, separate it from the hose and apply baby powder to the metal rod. Stretch out the hose and unwind it. In the future, separate the wand and unwind/stretch the hose after use.
2) If you can't pull the wand out all the way, remove the u-bend from the bottom of the machine - turn that plastic screw at the bottom next to the gray hose 45 degrees anti-clockwise and take the u-bend off.
3) Pull the hose out from the bottom (don't pull it out all the way - just enough to release the wand) and pull the wand at the same time - separate the wand from the hose and unwind the gray hose and stretch it out. Rub baby powder on the metal rod of the wand and in future, disconnect the wand from the hose and stretch/unwind the hose after every time you use the wand.

SOURCE: A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

For the full diagnostics, check out the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com or call our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards

SOURCE: No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

My Dyson works perfectly well with the base plate. As soon as i use the hose part it tends to loose all power and i cant even stretch the hose properlu

The hose is blocked, so you have very little suction at the end. The vacuum in the hose is pulling the hose shorter. With the vacuum turned off, push a broom handle through the hose to dislodge the blockage.

Why is it blowing and not sucking

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

Most of the time the reason why vacuum is not picking up is due to loss of suction. You may need to check for blockages of your wand and hose. Remove the wand and hose from your cleaner when checking for blockages and any damages. Make sure to turn off and unplug your vacuum from the power before doing this. Please refer to this troubleshooting guide for more information on how you can remove blockages:

When using brush mode keeps flipping into wand mode

Hi Debra, it's Jack at Dyson.

This issue sounds very unusual - it sounds like the changeover valve mechanism is damaged. However, you may want to double-check that there are no obstructions within the changeover valve which could be preventing it from working correctly. Our video guide will walk you through each step:

Brand new dyson DC40 has no suction at bottom

Hi Marin, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC40 is a powerful mid-size Dyson upright vacuums, and we wouldn't expect you to have any concerns about performance on hard flooring or carpet. As long as the machine is used and maintained as described in the User guide we would not anticipate a change in performance, and we're on hand to help if Dyson owners need assistance.

It's important to note that for effective pickup, the cleaner head needs to form a close seal with the floor surface. Simply placing a hand under the cleaner head does not give an accurate idea of suction as you're not creating a seal, as you would be when you place your hand right across the end of the wand or hose. If you turn on and recline the vacuum, turn off the brush bar then lower the cleaner head onto something like a sheet of newspaper, you should see the newspaper held tightly against the soleplate by the vacuum's powerful suction.

We're keen to discuss this with you, and to help ensure your DC40 is working as well as it should be. Please email your full contact details to my colleagues at askdysonUS@dyson.com, and one of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible to provide further assistance.

Dyson dc40 motor not working, only brush turns

Hi Elsa, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC40 has a thermal cutout which will shut off the machine if it begins to overheat. This can often be due to a blockage, or because the filters need a wash.

Your machine should reset itself automatically after it's had a few hours to call down. However, to prevent any damage to your machine we'd recommend using our online Support guide to check for any blockages you may have missed: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc40/dc40-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-up-well/both-checks-checking-wand-and-hose-step-1

In normal use we recommend washing both filters at least once a month, using cold water without detergent as shown in the video attached. Allow at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them - it can help to place them by a radiator, or inside an airing cupboard.

If you'd like some further help after you've given this a try, you're welcome to contact our experts directly. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US) or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Not sucking strongly enough

Hi Neil, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC40 isn't picking up as well as it should be, it's likely there will be a blockage that you may have missed. The most effective way to check for this is to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc40/dc40-multi-floor-complete/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-up-well/both-checks-checking-wand-and-hose-step-1

We'd also recommend washing both filters, which should be done at least once a month in normal use - the video attached should help. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for them to dry before replacing them.

If you'd like some further help after you've given this a try, please call our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Model DC40, the wand doesn't have any suction when I want to use on stairs, etc.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
If your DC40 doesn't seem to have suction through the wand but picks up as normal on flooring, it's likely there's a blockage in the wand or hose. To locate and remove any obstructions, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc40/dc40-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-up-well/check-the-wand-and-hosedc40

It's also worth giving both filters a wash as shown in the video below - in normal use this should be done at least once a month. Use cold water without detergent and at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further assistance please call our freephone Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Dyson DC25- no suction

When you return the hose the wand will push the flap open, this is normal. if you were to take off your dirt bin youll see a clear dial with a grey arm attached to it. this grey arm is part of the piece your wand pushes open. This clear dial activates your change over valve. There should be a screw and plastic washer in the center of it. These sometimes work loose. You can try turning the dial by hand with the hose out and see if this changes anything.

No suction in wand after few seconds

Check the inspection air ways as dirt can often get clogged if the bin assembly hasn't been fitted correctly. check that the seal cone is properly fitted before locking the whole bin assembly back in and check that the motor filter has been correctly placed.
