Sounds like your motherboard was fried. You ALWAYS need to have your computers plugged into a surge protector. So Sorry!

SOURCE: had a power outage and the computer won't come

open CPU cabinet and give power to computer thencheck your smps is working?
it is square box where you connect power code to cpu.
If its running then it is ok.Then check for loose connection from smps to motherbord.
But if its not working then you have to change smps or repair it.
Thanks for using fixya.
Please rate solution if it helps.

Wont boot

Check power Supply as it might have shortened the power, Open the case and remove the big white power lead from the motherboard (this is clearly visible as all the colored leads re and yellow from the power supply - normally a P4 feed into the socket).
Unplug this, find another power supply and using the big white cable connect this to the motherboard and try powering the machine up with that.
If works - great just replace all power cables from the power supply in your machine with the ones from the working one (not forgetting to remove the old power supply from the computer and replacing it with new one).

This should work

Tried a different mouse? Maybe the power outage fried it. pc2 mouse? If it the wirring is fried or the mother board for the mouse is fried then you could purchase a USB mouse if you have an available port.  Finally download the mouse driver and reload it first.   Any more questions please ask. Thanks

Hello,

Try the following:
1. If connected to surge protector, make sure it's on. If it is, then...
2. Try plugging computer directly into wall and turn on...if no then...
3. Unplug and plug the power cord back in and then try to turn on...if nogo then...
4. If there's a switch on the back of your pc that has 120/240. Switch it back and forth back from 240 back to 120, turn on again...if no go then...
5. Unplug everything from the back of your pc except power cord, keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Try again. If it still doesn't turn on.. let me know. By chance, has any power outage occured or any change been done to pc since it was last turned on?
