Testimonial: "I had took out a 20hp ONAN ENGINE and the Kawasaki is replacement about 3 years ago. I never had a problem before. It always started right up. Like I said it tried to start but nothing. I put in a new spark plug-no thing -no spark""

first thing to do is go to a automotive parts store and ask for a "INLINE" spark tester it will be the best diagnostic tool you own.

wont crank or wont start. 2 different things...

wont crank, in this order: check fuse, brake switch ( adjustment and operation ) and then ignition switch

wont start but does crank: check for spark, yes then check fuel shut off solenoid. no, disconnect kill wire to coil and check again, still no, coil is issue, if yes after disconnecting kill wire suspect a safety switch

I have a snapper 28 hi vac riding mower that won't

first try and start it with carb cleaner or starting fluid with the air filter out if it fires then its a carb/fuel problem if not it could be a spark problem remove the plug connect hte wire back up and crank the engine over while looking for spark if no spark disconnect the kill switch wires from the side of the engine should be a single wire near the throttle cable if spark with that off the problem is in the wiring or safety switch if still no spark its the coil

What would cause no spark? the mower is a masport 8/02 two stroke. Will not start and I have changed spark plug and cleaned every thing but still nothing.

Your spark plug wire may be damaged, or your magneto may be too weak to generate a spark. You also have a kill switch wired to your magneto, and a condensor. I would start by cleaning the contacts of the magneto and then check the gap between the magneto and the flywheel. The gap between the flywheel and magneto should be .010". I would start by checking the kill switch wire for damage. If any damage is suspected, replace the kill switch. Next, I would have the magneto tested or replaced. Also, check all your ground wires for damage, or loose contacts.

When you are checking for a spark, you should have the spark plug installed in the spark plug wire as normal, but not installed in the engine. The spark plug base should be grounded to the engine while trying to start and checking for a spark. If there is a weak spark, this is probably due to a worn magneto.

We can't get a spark

The safety features on the riding lawnmowers can be hard to troubleshoot.
1.The starter should NOT operate when blades are engaged.
2.Spark will not occur without a rider ON the seat with the blades engaged,
3.Spark will function with the parking brake on (on some models)
Theirs two wires coming out from under the engine top cover,(for a Briggs)
One is for charging and the other is the kill switch.
If you remove the kill switch wire then attempt to start and the magneto is good
you will have spark.
DO NOT use mower without the safety functions connected.
If you have spark with the kill wire removed then the wiring and /or switches are faulty
Make sure the plug is against the ground or it will not spark.
We can go from here.
Good Luck

Eager ****** gas line trimmer will not start no spark at plug

The best test for an ignition coil is removing the wires going to the kill switch at the coil. Most small engines will run with the kill circuit open & stop when you ground it. If you disconnect the kill wire & you have no spark, than it's a coil.. If you do have spark, check the switch & kill wire for a possible short.

Lawn mower will not start. I changed spark plug, gas is in the mower and oil, mower still does not run

If your mower will start when you prime it, and then it dies right away, you have a carberator pluged. If after primeing the mower and it will not even start for a few seconds, you have lost spark. If you have no spark, this can be cause by two things. First, the magnito could have gone back, but this dosen't happen to often, but it can happen. First, check to see that the cable from the brake handle has not stretched. This controls engine brake and its also the kill switch, which kills the spark. Get acess to your engine brake, and you will find a wire connected to a tab. Remove this wire and try to start the mower. If it starts, replace the control cable. If it dosen't start, hook the wire back up and replace the magnito. I hope this is of some help

Riding mower wont start

Hi Pry

The spark comes from the Magneto. Follow the spark plug wire and you will find the magneto at the end of it

The first thing you should check though, is the safety kill switch. There is a pressure switch in the seat that kills the engine in the event the driver falls off.

You need to be sitting on the mower to start it.

If the switch is ok and you still get no fire, it's the magneto.

Best regards,
Mike
