Question about Vehicle Parts & Accessories

1 Answer

Radio code I have had to replace my battery and now my radio won't go. It keeps asking for a 4 digit code which I do not have, how do I go about getting the code or is there an override for this that will make the radio work. Any help would be extreemly appreciated. Alan.

The code would have been given when the car was new.
Look in the glove box for any paper, card etc with a likely number written on it.
When I bought mine, the salesman wrote the number on his business card so it looked like a phone number.

CP185 has intermittent static, when pressing button to talk screen displays "channel busy" and battery will not keep a charge.

Could be one of several issues. A few which come to mind are:

1) You have a bad or poorly charged battery. Static is a sign of a bad or poorly charged battery. Try swapping a battery from another radio, with a known good battery and see if the problem is solve. If this resolves the issue check your battery and charger. Tip: Clean all charge contacts with a pencil eraser to ensure good charging. Also, check your 3- or 4-digit date code on the battery. If more than 2 years old, replace the battery. (4-digit date code example 1303 would be 2013 the 3rd week; on 3-digit date codes the first number is the year and the next two the week of the year.)

2) You are trying to use the radio in an area where you are experiences high RF on your frequency. This is the "busy"... someone/something is on or near your radio's frequency and interfering with transmission. Try your radio at a different location and see if the problem persists.

3) Another radio in the workgroup is stuck in transmit, causing static, and the channel busy. Turn off other radios, one at a time, and see if the problem still exists.

4) Or if you have an audio device plugged into the radio, try unplugging it and see if the problem stops. FYI: All audio devices must be plugged or unplugged with the radio shut off. If you plug one in with the radio turned on, you can experience some unexpected intermittent issues.

If none of these seem to be the problem, your radio is likely in need of repair.

Best regards.

Where is the serial number on my focus radio?

That 4 digit code is not a serial # it is a 4 digit anti theft code witch is usually set by factory so usually if you have the original manual for car the code should be written in there some where usually

The exact Code Entry Instructions will depend on the radio make + Model

The normal method of entering a four digit code is to keep pressing Preset Button 1 until the first digit is displayed...then keep pressing Preset 2 , then 3 , then 4 then often press 5 or 6 to store the code in the radio

How do you unlock the stereo in a Chevy 2002 Silverado?

You will have to access a 6 digit code out of the radio Theftlock system then still go to a dealership to get the 4 digit code that unlocks the radio. Most people put in a radio code (4 digits) when new then forget it years later when the battery is replaced or radio removed. Press preset buttons #2 & #3 at the same time with the key in run position and radio on. A 3 digit code should be displayed (write it down) then immediately press the AM/FM button, another 3 digit code will appear. Take the 6 digit code to a GM dealer. They will call Delcotronics with the generic 6 digit code and get you the master unlock code for your radio. You can dial it in using the scan buttons (best to ask the dealer how, or get them to do it). Once set you can change it again or write down the master unlock code and keep it somewhere for the next time the battery is disconnected. If you can't access the 6 digit code, you will still need to bring it to a dealership and have it unlocked by reprogramming it. It actually is a module on the data line and can create trouble codes and be programmed. It can not be taken from your truck and used in any other vehicle unless programmed to that vehicle.

The battery on my 1996 Saab 900 died one day and when I replaced it with a new battery the radio was no longer working. Any ideas? Thanks, Joe G

There is a 4 digit code that you must enter to get the radio working again. You should have a plastic credit card sized card with the 4 digit code printed on it; if you don't have this card and the number is not written down anywhere on the owner's manual then the number should be on the back of the radio itself. When you turn on the radio the info screen should ask you to enter a code.....if you can't find the code in any of the places I listed I believe you can get it from the dealer. Hope this helps!

Delco Car Radio

When battery power is removed and later applied to a
secured radio, the radio won’t turn on and LOC will
appear on the display.

Unlocking the Theft-Deterrent Feature After a
Power Loss
Enter your secret code as follows; pause no more than
15 seconds between steps:
1. Turn the ignition on. LOC will appear on the display.
2. Press MN and 000 will appear on the display.
3. Press MN again to make the last two digits agree
with your code.
4. Press HR to make the first one or two digits agree
with your code.
5. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the
code matches the secret code you have written down.
The display will show SEC, indicating the radio is
now operable and secure.
If you enter the wrong code eight times, INOP will
appear on the display. You will have to wait an hour with
the ignition on before you can try again. When you try
again, you will only have three chances to enter the
correct code before INOP appears.
If you lose or forget your code, contact your dealer.
Disabling the Theft-Deterrent Feature
Enter your secret code as follows; pause no more than
15 seconds between steps:
1. Turn the ignition to ACCESSORY or RUN.
2. Turn the radio off.
3. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down
until SEC shows on the display.
4. Press MN and 000 will appear on the display.
5. Press MN again to make the last two digits agree
with your code.
6. Press HR to make the first one or two digits agree
with your code.
7. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the
code matches the secret code you have written down.
The display will show ---, indicating that the radio
is no longer secured.
If the code entered is incorrect, SEC will appear on the
display. The radio will remain secured until the correct
code is entered.
Theft-Deterrent Feature (If Equipped)
THEFTLOCK is designed to discourage theft of your
radio. It works by using a secret code to disable all radio
functions whenever battery power is removed.
The THEFTLOCK feature for the radio may be used or
ignored. If ignored, the system plays normally and the
radio is not protected by the feature. If THEFTLOCK is
activated, your radio will not operate if stolen.
When THEFTLOCK is activated, the radio will display
LOC to indicate a locked condition anytime battery
power has been interrupted. If your battery loses power
for any reason, you must unlock the radio with the secret
code before it will operate.
Activating the Theft-Deterrent Feature
The instructions which follow explain how to enter
your secret code to activate the THEFTLOCK system.
It is recommended that you read through all nine steps
before starting the procedure.
If you allow more than 15 seconds to elapse between
any steps, the radio automatically reverts to time and
you must start the procedure over at Step 4.
1. Write down any three or four-digit number from
000 to 1999 and keep it in a safe place separate
from the vehicle.
2. Turn the ignition to ACCESSORY or RUN.
3. Turn the radio off.
4. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down
until --- shows on the display. Next you will use the
secret code number which you have written down.
5. Press MN and 000 will appear on the display.
6. Press MN again to make the last two digits agree
with your code.
7. Press HR to make the first one or two digits agree
with your code.
8. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the
code matches the secret code you have written down.
The display will show REP to let you know that you
need to repeat Steps 5 through 7 to confirm your
secret code.
9. Press AM-FM and this time the display will show
SEC to let you know that your radio is secure.
The LED indicator by the volume control will begin
flashing when the ignition is turned off.
