Question about Sharp Televison & Video
That remote has to work / it is a direct tv issue since it is their equipment that you are renting and it is supposed to work with your set..
Did you make sure that the batteries in the remote are good? that the remote unit itself is good ( Use digital camera or am radio to test out - see google)

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

SOURCE: Direct TV remote
I think you mean Hughs when you're referring to your direct Tv remote? And you want that remote to turn on/off your Sylvania Tv, right?
I'd need to know the Hughs model number on the remote to know if it's a four or five digit code requirement. But here's a site that might help. http://www.remotecodelist.com/remotes/
Scroll down to Hughs and that link should take you to the DTV site where they have a wealth of info regarding codes. Find your model number remote control and you should have a list of possible codes to try.
If all this doesn't work let me know and I'll research sme more.

should be able to go through on the tv unit itself to auto search the channels, i've done in numerous times for friends in dorms who lose their remotes or don't know how to reprogram for the new cable channels. it should be on the tv by the channels and volume buttons.

you may need to reprogram your remote, or, if you have your profile setup on the harmony website, reload from there

I had the same problem with my remote. I would enter the code and there would be no response from the remote. I looked up the manual for the other comcast remote and the codes are 5 digits instead of 4. Try codes 10093 or 11602. The reason why there is no response from your remote is because it is waiting for you to enter the last digit of the code. Hope this helps.

There is NO solution to this problem. I'm an electronics engineer. I have three Samsung TV and IR remote extenders. It is a continual problem. If someone told you could "re-program" the Samsung remote, they must have thought you could write assembly level programming code.
There is NO incentive for Samsung to modify their highly popular, simple, cheap remote system.
Believe me, I even tried putting polarizing filters over the IR sensors but the ones for cameras do not polarize light at IR frequencies.
