Question about Honda Horizontal OHV Engine 270cc, GX Series, 1in. x 3 31/64in
The engine was hunting under load. So I decided to clean the air filter and the main jet on the carburetor. The engine will not run at all now. It may run for about 5 seconds, backfires and cuts out. I have since removed the carburetor and cleaned everything with Carburetor cleaner but I still can't get the engine to run.
Spray some either into the air filter. If it starts and runs for a few seconds then it is not getting fuel. If it won't start it may be getting too much fuel. Verify that there are no vacuum leaks and that the bowl of the carb has gas in it.

WHY do you want to clean the carb? If you have no problem, leave it alone. If you are concerned about old fuel in it, there is a bowl on bottom of the carb about 2" in Doameter. There is a bolt in the middle of the bowl that retains it. ( 10mm as I recall) remove the bolt and bowel. Clean out the bowl with a little mineral spirits or solvet and reassemble.
Note, turn off the fuel from the fuel tank before removin g the bowl
