Camera won't stay on with new batteries

Always charge NiMH batteries before using them for the first time, or if they have not been used for a long period.
Always charge sets of batteries (2 or 4) together.
Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries may have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended.
AA manganese (Zinc-Carbon) should not be used. hey have limited power and can leak in a short time, destroying a camera.

Will not power on. ive put in new aa batteries

Try this:
- remove the batteries
- wait more than 60 seconds
- reinstall (fresh/charged) batteries

Mine was exhibiting the same problem ... it would start to power on, but died as soon as the lens began any motion at all. It would power up fine on AC power, or on the dock. I was going to install new firmware on the camera to try to fix the problem. Reading the firmware installation instructions indicated that, to complete the firmware upgrade, the batteries would need to be removed for at least 60 seconds, which I'm guessing forces the camera into some sort of deeper reboot/restart.

I have an hp 735 photosmart camera which I am very pleased with but my husband has broken the lid which covers the batteries so the camera will not work. where can I get one of these covers from?

You can get the cover from the same retailer where you purchased the camera from, or you can order it from HP. Alternatively, a good camera shop can repair it for you if you have no experience in working with tiny screws that hold the lid in place.

HP photosmart M417

My M417 that I just got at a garage sale works fine but when I put a set of freshly charged NiMH batteries in it will only work for a couple of minutes before the camera will say they are dead and shuts down. When I test the "dead" batteries they each have over 1.25 volts and flow over 8 amps through a dead short (the meter). I have upgraded the firmware. Any ideas?
