Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1: Windows

2 Answers

Limited connectivity My Internet went out, the ISP came and repaired the wire, but now my computer won't connect. I am running Vista home premium. I spent 90 minutes yesterday on the phone with a Gateway technician for too many dollars and zip on the help. I have tried everything and nothing will allow me to use the internet. I can see the wireless router on my computer and also the main modem, but the error I get is that I have ''limited '' activity which means only access is to the in home network, not the internet. I wish someone would find an answer to this. I am at the point where I want to trash my computer or wipe the hard drive. I'm sure it is probably something simple and I am just overlooking it.

I'm sure you're frustrated. Let's do some troubleshooting to narrow the problem. Can you connect to other networks with your PC ?? If you can see and connect to other networks with full access, the problem is your network - contact your ISP again. Borrow a friend's laptop. If you can connect to your network with full access, the problem lies with your PC. Good luck.

Error 815

First you have to make sure you should have working internet connection. Error 815 mostly related to ISP side so suggest you to contact ISP first.
You can also try below steps if ISP says everything is fine.

If the connection can be established by using other device/system, please create a new administrator account on the Windows Vista machine to troubleshoot the issue:

1.Click Start > type user account and click the User Accounts control panel.

2.In the User Account control panel, click Manager another account.

3.Click Create a new account, type an account name > select Administrator and then click Create Account.

4.Logoff and logon with the new account and try to establish the connection to check if the issue persists.

Laptop running windows vista won't connect to router in Europe.

You need to call the internet provider. They more than likely have a different protocol to set up in order for your internet to work.

Using Vista Home Premium on Firefox, goes off line at times

Are you on a wireless connection or a wired connection? If you are on wireless, try changing the channel on your wireless router. You may be getting interference from another source/network.

If its a wired connection they try right clicking the connection and choosing "repair." This will correct several basic network problems. If that doesn't fix it, post back and further troubleshooting will be required.

Getting Vista to use my wireless internet connection correctly

One question, is... do you need to enter a KEY or is this an open network?
I have found that with a new computer, you need to do the following to connect.
If this is an open network, then leave your router running, and just do a cold boot with your computer.
IE: Shut down, count to 10, and then re-start.
You may also need to connect (by network cable) to your router and make sure the wireless is turned on.
Most new rountes start with the wireless disabled.

I assumed you've restarted the router. I only ask as I often have issues like that where some units can see the internet and some can't when freshly connected. The other thing is to check that the adaptor settings for the network card under ipv4 dont have any manual DNS settings and is set to auto unless you are using a public DNS such as Google and then the override settings such as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 would be fine.

How to install raspppoe connection in vista

Hi,

The trick with XP also woks eith VISTA too.
Try the following in vista, you will succeed.

If you're using a RAS / PPPOE connection for Internet, and wish to automatically connect to your ISP at startup, you may use Rasdial utility which is built-in.

Usage: Open a Command Prompt window and type:

Rasdial <connectoid> "username" "password"

This would initiate a dial-up/PPPoE connection to your ISP.
You can create a batch file with the above parameters and place it in your Startup folder, so that vista dials to your ISP automatically at every startup.
If you don't prefer to enter the password in the batch file, use the following command-line (vista will prompt you for a password - secure)

Rasdial <connectoid> "username" *

NOTE: Type Rasdial.exe /? in the Command Prompt to learn more about this command, it's other parameters.

Hope my info helps you,
Thanx for using fixya,
Cheers.
