loosen the two nuts that hold the chain cover on. Once they are just loose, then use a flat blade screw driver to turn the slot that you see right next to the base of the chain. Once the chain is tight, retighten the two nuts.

If the chain is loose and doesn't snap back into the guide when pulled away, it will have to be tightened. If chain tension is OK, the saw may be waiting for you to put on your work gloves and lean on it to show it who's boss. You can do it!

Chain loose on your chainsaw?

Hi there,

Chainsaw bars get loose all the time. This can create a dangerous situation.

Tightening the chain is done through the positioning of the bar. The further away from the drive gear it extends, the tighter the chain is.

The are usually two nuts holding the bar on. These need to be loosened slightly to allow the bar movement.

Depending on your model there may be a guard over them. Remove it.

Once the nuts are loose, locate the tensioning screw. It will be relatively small, located adjacent to and facing parallel to the bar.

This screw is attached to a metal lip that in turn is attached to the bar. The screw remains in one place while the lip moves up down.

Start spinning. Keep going until the chain is tight.

Tighten the Bar Nuts, replace the guard if necessary.

Now go slice some wood.

Best regards
Mike

The chain has come off. I put it back but it is too loose. How do I tighten it

Should be a screw next to the bar. you can tighten it and it will tighten the chain. Keep in mind that the 2 bolts holding the bar and cover in place have to be loose to do this.

How to tighten a chain on a champion chainsaw

There are some bolts that allow you to extend the bar that the chain runs on. Find them and extend the bar a bit to tighten the chain. Don't forget to tighten them again before you use the chain saw.

Chainsaw chain will not tighten on the guide bar

The two nuts on the bolts for the chain bar, need to be loosened.

Then the tension screw is tightened by turning it Clockwise. (To the Right)

If the chain doesn't tighten,

1.Insure that the nuts are loose enough, so that the chain bar may slide.

2.Insure that the tension adjusting screw does not have stripped threads, nor the threaded part of the case it screws through.

How do I tighten my chain? its too loose and keeps falling off.

Mike's answer might do it. My saw has a feature in the Chain Bar to turn right or left to move the Bar in or out. Loosen those same nut Mike wrote about, but now turn the Bar Feature (gear) to adjust, and then tighten the two nuts.

Cannot tighten the chain bar

Make sure the bar is positioned on the bar adjusting pin before you tighten cover. Adjust tension with bar adjusting screw, then tighten bar bolts.
