Question about Nikon COOLPIX L18 Digital Camera

1 Answer

No image on file

When reviewing pictures on camera (1 or 2 out of 30)will show briefly or not at all and then the message "no image on file"- of the 349 pics taken in Germany, 156 are MIA. also the slide show always stopped about the 3rd pic and I just received it back in the mail from having sent it in for service for the 5th time (yes 5th!) and now the slide show doesn't go past the first picture. when even the people at best buy can see the problem how can I get passes the notorious "can't duplicate problem" at the service center. in the six months I've had the camera it has been at service centers longer than with me

Can't find pictures in internal memory

If you can connect the camera to your PC via a cable, normally USB, to browse the contents of the camera's internal memory then try simply to do a search on the camera's 'drive' for .png, .jpeg or .jpg, .bmp or any other filetype that your camera would use.
Your PC should be able to find any files using those file types and display them. From there you can copy or cut and paste them to a location on your PC's hard drive.
You may have to make sure that your computer has Show Hidden Files and Folders turned on under Folder Options.
Normally, a camera saves all videos and pictures in a folder called DCIM, even on internal storage.

Download problmes

The steps for downloading without software are to 1. attach the camera to the computer using a USB. 2. turn the camera on in "picture review" mode (the mode that allows you to see your past taken pictures on the LCD screen. 3. After a few seconds, your camera should show as "connected". 4. If you open "My Computer", the camera should show as a drive. 5. If it's there, double click on it to open it as a folder. 6. If there are subfolders, look for the one labeled DCIM (Digital Camera images). The image files should show once you open this folder. Then just copy/paste or drag/drop the image files to a folder on your hard drive.
But should your camera NOT show up as a drive, it's still no problem. It's very hard to troubleshoot the individual software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place? See this link for an alternative, faster, more reliable way to download your photos.

I have a DSC T70. Sometimes i get a message "File Error" for some of the pictures. For these pictures, the file does not show and when printed, the picture is merged with another picture.

The LCD screen of the Camera may display a FILE ERROR message when trying to view a still image on the Camera if the image was rotated, modified and overwritten using editing software on a Computer.

To play images you have taken on the Camera, it is recommended that you do not make any changes to the original image files.
